Let's resurrect this one. Did you get Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alan? If so, can you share some details? Image, sound, ... Were the titles in German?

Hi All,

Just wondering if any of the mentioned titles could be ordered direclty here in Europe (they are printed in Germany, aren't they?) without the need to order in US from Steve O. so avoinding duties costs and excessive shipping costs.
Any idea?
I saw some of the same titles included in my long wanted list (I mention them as CHC prints...)

Bye

Emailing Gary, it was very likely that the machines were to be scrapped.
Sitting dormant for two years made the machines unusable.

Hi everyone,

I'm amazed that you still can get new prints on Super 8. I'm curious about how this works. Are these prints made under license from the production company or is it some kind of "pirate" prints? What kind of source are used for the prints?

Your best/
jan.

Nice! Anyone know if Steve has an email address? (thinking of the effect that the Atlantic would have on my phone bill!)

I haven't been using 8mm for a long time, but want to get the good old feeling. I was just wondering, is Raiders of the Lost Ark going for 750 as a whole feature or just that 17-18 minute reel?

If it's the full feature, it's quite okay, but sounds expensive for the excerpt reel

Vidar, that is for a full feature.

For the excerpt of Raiders of the Lost Ark will be around $35 - $60 depending on the condition. It is from Marketing Films. Most of them are printed on low fade stock, so will have good color until now.

Sounds awesome. Anyone have email or snail mail address for Steve? I am not too confortable calling, as my english is very stuttery, due to nerves :-/

Lovely to see people caring about movies ... I must say, digital cinema has ruined some of movie magic for me. When I was young, I went to the cinema about 5-10 times a week, but now maybe once or twice a year. Had to go see Prometheus, but mostly I wait for the Blu-Ray as I think sound and picture is better at home than the new cinemas.

Vidar, I have "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and, although printed on acetate, it has wonderful colors (full spectrum: no reddish or bluish hues, no yellowish cast except inbetween sprockets). Printing material comes from a somewhat worn out 35 mm positive, but this is only evident at reel-changeovers which feature dirt, scratches and all the typical defects that were common for a print in the early 80's, for a few seconds. Otherwise it's really enjoyable and conveys that added "cinema-theatre quality" that you invariably miss with ANY type of digital media.
So colors: A-
Sharpness: B+
Sound: not present.

In fact mine is an unstriped print and I screen it with custom made sound clips, specially done for this print: a beep signal at the start, has the projector switch to FWD projction at exactly the right frame automatically while the sync quartz keeps the sound perfectly in sync throughout. But the machine is a GS 1200. Rhe result is excellent and you get actual dolby surround.

Drools over GS-1200 ... And Raiders :-)

Lucky guys ... I wouldn't mind too much a mono track either though, so I could use it on my ST-1200D MO
