hello,

since i am new into 16mm i need a bit of a helping hand for a 16mm projector on ebay. i dont know how much it is worth, how far should i push it with bidding?

Eiki 16mm Optical Sound

or

Bell & Howell 16mm

i believe for both i can get spares relatively easy?
but what are these really worth? any help is greatly apprecchiated [Smile]

Actually Eiki and B&H are the same company. Eiki bought out B&H. The particluar B&H in that pic looks like a model 2585 which was built like a tank.The earlier series had a plastic worm gear that would crack and have to be replaced. I have 2 2585 and they both run great. I have also had the Eiki that ran well. In this case I would lean toward the one you can get for the least money as I think the quality is the same. The starting bid on the B&H I feel is too high. Lets see what the other guys have to say. Good luck with your search and welcome to the forum and hobby!

I don't know much about the Bell & Howell model there.

The Eiki RM-0, you should note does not have an extension speaker in the lid. You would need to acquire one seperately. Having said that, those Eikis are sturdy machines and easily repaired due to their modular construction.
IMO, it's worth about £50.

Couple of Comments:

1) B&H only started re-selling Eiki projectors with the 3000 series. Earlier models are NOT Eikis.

2) The aforementioned earlier B&Hs (including the one in your link) have the infamous worm gear problems. Stay away unless you know the worm gear has been replaced.

I don't know what the going rate is in the UK, but in the US, that Eiki would probably go from $50-$150, and the B&H from $25-$100.

Just as an amendment to what I said earlier. Having re-read the Eiki auction - not only does this model not have a speaker in the cover, it would appear that this particular projector does not even have a cover.
Avoid it. These really are ten a penny on ebay. Another will be along shortly.

Michael, may i correct you? The Eiki in fact does have a 5" Speaker in the cover and since im a Electronic Developer/Engineer i plan to build a custom Tube Amp for this Machine anyway. (I build HiFi Tubeamps for those who are intrested)

I just won that Eiki auction... £56
Lets see if it is worth the price

Randy,

I think you'll find that the Eiki RM-0 only has a built-in speaker. It does not have an extension speaker in the cover - which is what I said above. In fact this particular projector does not have a cover.

Anyhow, glad you've found a projector. £56 is acceptable for this machine.

I too have not seen a cover for this projector with or without a Speaker.
Randy If it has cover and a Speaker please send a picture.

Hi Rich,

The RM-0 never had an extension speaker.
The RM-1 did.

Hi Guys,
I really apprecchiate your concern but as i said before i dont really care if this particular Projector has a Speaker in a Cover or built in somewhere. This will not be a "collection" item but a "workhorse", so it does not have to be in its absolut original condition. I will build an external 10 Watt Tubeamp / Speaker system for this projector.

ps: i just talked to the seller on the phone and he said the projector is in fantastic working order and just recently had a complete overhaul. he will send me the (overhaul) receipt along with this purchase.
