Laurel and Hardy
I'm not a 35mm collector, but as a Laurel and Hardy aficionado and collector, I thought I should comment. I've seen the auctions for several months now -- someone has cut up the BEST OF LAUREL AND HARDY compilation and is selling it in pieces. Why? Although each segment can stand on its own, they are not complete. Also, I believe this particular film is rare -- I've never seen it listed in 16mm. L&H in 35mm is even rarer.
The seller has been asking outrageous prices -- this one is actually cheap by his standards.
Anyway, it just makes me cringe that this film is being chopped up for sale. I know it is his to do what he wants with it, but what if the person who owned the second reel of THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY, for whatever strange reason, decided to chop it up into pieces before selling? He has every right to do it, but is it the right thing to do?
