Finally I bid an auction in Ebay and I won it. But since I did in rush I just skipped the information that was in Germany. i heard someone here could translate it. if I am not mistaken that's Jan Bister? This is the decription (this can be found at http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1476&item=6398115902&rd=1):

quote:

I also won antoher auction that can be seen at http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1476&item=6398102264&r

the information says:
quote:
piccolo film 2404 + 2405 also kompletter film

I won these two for a very good price, but I am not sure about the condition based on the above information. Is the second information saying that the movie in color or B/W? The movies may be in terrible condition. So please someone translate for me.

thanks,
Winbert

Thanks,
Winbert

OK, first item is "Die Wildgaense kommen" - originally 4x110m (or roughly 4x360ft) mounted on two 800ft reels. Original leaders and tails are present (except for where reels were spliced together, I'm assuming). Slight red shift due to age, picture and sound are "of typical UFA quality" (which IMHO is pretty decent). He also says the film is dry and chatters through the projector so it needs lubricated - then he goes on to suggest that alcohol should do the trick, which of course I must advise against. [Wink]

Second item - I have no idea what film that is, but seller says "slightly used, see pictures," then mentions that the second reel appears to have spots on the film for several meters which become less frequent further into the film - he has no projector to test so he's not sure if the spots eventually just stop or continue throughout the film. Hmm, I hope it's just dirt & grime which can be cleaned off and not water damage. He's not saying whether this film is in color or B/W; as I said I have no idea what Piccolo titles 2404 and 2405 are [Confused] but generally if something was in color then Piccolo made super-8 prints in color as well... so... it depends on the title [Big Grin]

Hi Winbert/Jan, I use Babelfish for translations. Just put the url into the page and then select German to English and hey presto.

Babelfish works nicely indeed, I've used it to translate those Italian super-8 pages into English. [Smile] But nothing beats the translation capabilities of a real human so I was more than happy to offer mine [Cool]

Thank Jan for the translation and also Kevin for the suggestion. I have also tried that interntet translator but since some results sound funny in English, therefor I follow Jan that Human translation is much better. Moreover, human (especially those 8mm maniacs) could feel it if the seller trying to hide something on the film condition.

Anyway, whatever the "Wild Geese" condition is, it is only 16 EUR film. This is my first bidding and seems I would addict to it [Wink]

Thanks again folks

Winbert/Jan, I agree that the human touch is much nicer but there are times when you want a very quick translation. I have to say though that sometimes the translation you get is very funny beacuse of course its all very literal. [Big Grin]

Couldn't agree more. It just gets me when Babelfish insists on referring to projectors as floodlights. [Big Grin]

The internet translator always tells me that "Bauer" projectors are actually made by farmers.

[Big Grin] LOL , the last "German Farmers" were made in Malaysia. [Big Grin]

Winbert, Jan,
the second film is "The Naked and the Dead (1958)". It is a piccolo film release from the early 70s. Only b/w prints released!!!
The one parter from the english market can be edited together
with the piccolo two parter. A collector said to me that it will be nearly a three parter.

The Wild Geese.
What is typical UFA-Quality? The shaprness of this release is much over the average 70s standard. Now there exists prints turned red and prints in still stunning color.

Jan, what means "IMHO"? Babelfish can´t translate. [Big Grin]

If I need a good spanish translation than I use the translation from german to french first, and then from french to spanish.

I thought the last Bauers were made in Italy by Silma, not in Malaysia. [Smile]

IMHO means "in my honest opinion" (or "humble opinion"). [Wink]

Has anyone tried "Freetranslation.com"? I find it works pretty well too. I haven't tried Babelfish, though. I'll give it a go next time.
