They are out there.
Only a month ago a Forum member posted a similar scam regarding a proposed sale of a motor car.

The same thing happened again last week when we wanted to buy a car on Gumtree, the advert said the seller was in London, when we contacted him he said he lived in Scotland. Too far for us to view but said he could deliver. Said he wanted the sale to go through Ebay, and would send a Paypal invoice. The alarm bells rang again. We looked at Ebay and his car was not listed. Another African from the sound of his accent. The other thing that should have alerted us was that the car was advertised well below normal asking price.

Another Ebay scam is putting well below the postage paid and getting a card from Royal Mail saying there is an excess plus admin charge. When we contacted the seller they said they had been to the office and paid, so we could pick up the parcel; I told them that if they had paid the Royal Mail would deliver; nothing arrived and after threatening to open a case and get a refund, the seller paid the excess and the item was delivered.

I just wanted to let you know I am totally disappointed with your
attitude. It's 1 day after the payment has been made. I want you to
confirm that you've indeed received the payment confirmation.
i know you should have received the confirmation messages from pay
.pal, by now so make sure you check your

why you have decided to stop writing me ever since you have gotten the
payment confirmation.I explained earlier to you about the problem i
had with the pick up agent. I hope you do not intend to steal from me
by keeping mute.I need a detailed confirmation of the transfer of the
funds you have sent to my agent at once. Here is my pick up
agent Headquarter info needed to get the money sent through western
union money transfer:

Would be interested in your reply, if any. No doubt you checked your Paypal account and found nothing received. This has happened twice to me and now twice to you all within a short space of time.

Awwww yes, the Nigerian scams!

(this is not a blanket statement of all Nigerians, I'm sure that there are no doubt very good and honorable Nigerians).

How would an agent in Nigeria pick up your item. At the time it happened to me I thought about reporting the matter to Ebay and Paypal, but after thought the less contact I have with these people the better. If these people were genuine they could pay cash on collection. Did he want to pay outside of Ebay, or did he win the item by bidding on Ebay?.

What are your plans, open a case for non payment, or ignore him. If he won the item through Ebay, you will be charged a sellers fee.
