I set up my Eumig 938 for a show last night and as soon as I switched it on there was a pop and the smell of burning plastic. Then the whole machine was dead. A few years ago I would have panicked at such a scenario, but I had a hunch that it was another failure of the main sliding switch. I have had problems with this switch on every 900 series machine that I have owned. it really is a nasty little switch with some kind of design issue Anyway checking around with a multimeter confirmed that this was in fact the problem. So for now I just bypassed the switch altogether, and the machine works fine. When I get time I will install a nice little rocker switch, just as I did on my 926GL:

Thanks Andrew. Yes I hate drilling holes in projectors, particularly a beauty like the 938, but in this case the addition of a quality rocker switch is a real improvement to the machine, both aesthetically and functionally.

Interesting fix, Paul. But do you thuink it might also be possible to attach the rocker switch in that place with bi-adhesive tape with the wires coming from the transformer through the apertures between the main frame and the back cover? Non eed for drilling in this case....

If it is done to a high standard as your other machine clearly is, I think it is an improvement personally and also looks great being an illuminated type rocker switch. Very nice indeed!

Maurizio, not sure what you have in mind. I have thought about trying to get the rocker into the same location as the existing sliding switch. which would be the preferred location for it. But I fear that this would require removing that sliding linkage plate which indexes the control knob (not that its really needed) and would require filing out the opening in the chassis plate and cover.

No, Paul, the placement of the switch I had in mind is the very same as yours in fact I share your perplexities about linkages etc. But the wires to and from the new switch could go through thos tiny holes between the seams of the rear cover
