Greetings to everyone
This is my first participation in the Forum and I would like to
start by saying how much I have appreciated it.I think it is very stimulating, interesting and most useful. Now, let me
raise a question which has been bugging me for sometime. Why
is it that in certain trailers, the format ratio keeps switching
from regular academy to some sort of widescreen and back?
Best regards Antonio

Welcome to the forum Antonio!

I wish I could answer that question for you, but this is just speculation-

In many instances, the trailers are put together before the movie has been totally competed, and many of the scenes are still in a "raw" state. Some scenes may have been filmed in full frame, while others were masked. Once the production and editing are completed, it is usually (though not always) framed in one consistent size.

Movie theater projectors have appeture plates behind the lens that keep the picture on the screen to a consistent size. When the picture goes to full frame, the top and bottom are actually cut off, keeping everything in the same ratio.

I have heard of super 8 people that have made thier own appeture plates for thier super 8 projectors. I use black masking, which frames everything very nicely.

Sorry to go on so long [Smile] Hope you come back to the forum soon.

Nick.

Hello Nick
Thanks for your reply to my querie.Your assumption is probably
correct. Regarding movie theatres projectors, what you say is
absolutely true. I have a friend who is a professional
projectionist and he told me all about it.

Thanks again and regards
