I won an auction for three comedy classics for 9.95, W.C. Fields "The Fatl Glass of Beer", another W.C. Fields, "The Dentist", and a rare Bert Lahr (the cowardly lion from the Wizard of OZ?) short subject, "Off the Horses", the film I bought all three for.
First off, these are Niles prints, super 8 sound, which can be "On and Off" in quality, but the sharpness and contrasts on these films are great. In fact, upon doing a preliminary visual scan of the films, I found that these films had not even been played, BRAND NEW!!
and then, came the great suprise!
I already had a Blackhawk print of the Dentist, a very nice print, but when I looked at this one, (the Niles) it has ALL the original titles, complete with the Paramount logo and a second title card for "Mack Sennet Comedies" with a bulldog as the mascot, something that I had never seen before! The Blackhawk titles begin with the main title of the short and then the cast.
Now, little things like that may not mean a lot to some perusers of Super 8, but I was tickled purple, (I don't like pink) to see those complete titles!
Hurrah for me!!
