I also enjoy watching W.C.Fields films.....silent or 16mm sound ones :-) which title did you get?

That's a good one, I have it on Standard/Regular 8mm like yourself...and on a 16mm sound version.

I regret selling 'It's A Gift',Fields as Harold Bissonette, 'Closed On Account of Molasses','Kumquats' and Mr. Muckle the Blind Man. If I remember the U8 print was very good...

I thought when I started up with the super 8's and got some WC Fields that I would like the films, but the one's i ended up with are truly BORING!!!! ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I never thought i would say such sacrilege, but at least i am honest [Smile]

The only ones i liked was 'If i had a Million' and 'Hurry Hurry'. These ones are real good. But, the golf specialist, the dentist, etc... arghhh, like pulling teeth trying to watch- he hee...
I'll have to check out the ones Steve mentions as those i haven't seen and they gotta be better that the fore-mentioned...I hope!

Matt, those are quotes from 'It's A Gift' Mr Muckle the blind man smashes a lot of things on display in Bissonette's store, 'Closed On Account of Molasses' is a sign Bissonette puts in the window after 'Baby Leroy' opens the tap on the molasses barrel, and 'Kumquats' is an on going order some-one is making in the store, that's from memory it was a long time ago I had the film...

And let's not forget "Hurry, Hurry" is a stand-alone segment not found in Universal 8's "Never give a sucker an even break." Therefore, you can easily create a 25-minute version of this W.C. Fields classic by combining the two.

I know what u mean about THE GOLD SPECIALIST, but keep in mind that this is a very early talkie that attempts to film Fields' classic stage routine, but with very static camera work and direction. Try MUCH ADO ABOUT GOLF for a much better version of the same routine.

Not sure why you don't like THE DENTIST -- a true classic in every sense of the word -- but to each his own.

The 2 Castle extracts are better quality, and the content is the same (THE BIG THUMB and CALIFORNIA BOUND).

A bit of an explanation regarding Universal 8 vs. Castle prints quality.

Original Castles were edited 35mm fine grains reduced to 8mm and 16mm, so they were often better than 16mm TV prints. When Universal 8 began doing their 400 (8mm) and 800 (16mm) footers, they worked from 16mm prints, resulting in dupes.
