I have a regular 8mm cement agfa splicer-n8 that works very well. Is there such a thing as a super 8mm cement agfa splicer?
If so, anyone have this for sale? Just not happy with my tape splicers.

Hi Bruce, I have a EUMIG Z01 super 8 cement splicer I got in a trade (no instructions included). I don't know if that will work, but you can have it for postage. I only use tape splices.

hahnel kollmatic made a super 8 cement splicer I use it for all my acetate prints while it is not for sale keep an eye out for one as they are neat. I have a 16mm one but it needs a little work if interested let me know.

I always prefer Cement over tape, because tape glue tend to dry over the years.

Anyone else but me uses cement?

Yeah I also have a duel 8mm hahnel kollmatic cement film splicer too and if you can find one it's worth the investment. It's a wedge splicer
and it makes the best splices and fast too because it's all electronic battery operated. They do come up on ebay and that's where I got mine, so if you can find one buy it because you won't be disappointed with it's performance.

I've been using the Bolex beveled cement splicer for both 8mm and Super 8 with great results. The splice passes through the projector very easily and quietly. Does the Hahnel Kollmatic make a similar splice? Is it fast or do you have to make a lot of passes over the grinder? Can someone that has used both make a comparison? I've been thinking about getting a Hahnel.

Hello all: Thanks for the information. I have located a Hahnel
Kollmatic AMS 80 for $50.00 and a Hahnel Kollmatic SD8 (dual?)
for $70.00. Cost is no problem. Which one to buy is the problem.

I'm only familar with the hahnel kollmatic dual 8mm which is what I have and it's fast & it has a diamond tip grinding wheel and you just make a couple of passes over the film and then apply just a dab of cement. I don't know anything about the AMS 80 or the Bolex Splicer but I really like the one I have and would recommend it to anyone who wants a really great cement splicer thats fast & simple to use & makes perfect splices!

Ok: I ordered the hahnel kollmatic sd8 film splicer. The diamonds sold me. Hope this will replace the five splicers I now have. Thanks to all.

Congrats on your splicer and I know you will be very happy with your purchase! Find out if you are getting the instructions with the unit, and if not I can scan mine to your email address.
The instructions are very helpful and you will need them. You will also need two D batteries to run the splicer.

Hi Jim,
Yeah mine is somewhat similar to yours pictured. Mine is gray in color and there are two red buttons at the top of the unit.
The top left one spins the grinding wheel for the left side for the film when you press it, and the right top button spins the grinding wheel for the right side of the film. Now I noticed in your picture you do not have those two buttons so how does yours work to spin the grinding wheel? Also how do you upload a picture to put on the forum because I have never done that before on the site?

the film is inserted into the left and right arms these then they pivot one clockwise, and the other counter clockwise one at a time of course while pivoting these they pass through the grinding in the middle and then they meet at the middle where one applies the cement.
As far as uploading a picture make sure it is a jpeg format bmps will not work, if you right click on the picture it should say open with....select paint the picture should open in paint, then go up to the tool bar on top click on image, then stretch/skew you will have to experiment with sizes but only change the horizontal, vertical dimensions it will start out at 100% type 50% in each and see how big the picture is (again you may have to try another % if it is not the size you will want go back into edit in the tool bar and select undo this will bring it back to its original size) i keep a wooden ruler nearby and measure across the bottom of the picture and use 6" as a rule of thumb once you have the right size go back to the tool bar and go into "file" and save it as jpeg on your desktop. On the forum where you add a reply there is a Click here to upload an image link click on that link it will open another window scroll down to the bottom of the page there you will see your user name/password login you need to type those exactly your name has to have a capital first letter and the same with your last name Roger Shunk then click the browse button and find your image on desktop click that then click submit a link should show up along with your picture, copy that link and paste it into this message area ta-da hopefully it will work.
Sorry it is so detailed but take it step by step.

Now that looks like my 16mm splicer i bet i could do 8mm on it however the grinding wheel does not turn very well. [Frown]

Yesterday, Friday 13th I received the Hahnel Kollmatic SD8 purchased off ebay. No instructions were included.
So BIG HELP is needed. Splicer looks to be in good condition.The color of the four sides is off-white,the top is metal, maybe aluminum and there is a single green button on the front. The metal plates(?) that holds the film has pins for reg.8mm and super 8mm. Powered by two "C" cells. No effort has been made to operate the splicer, didn't want to break any thing. So, if anyone can shed some light on the operation of this splicer -- many many thanks.

Bruce, I can scan my directions and email them to you! But here is what you do to operate the unit. I have the same one you do.

Press in locking clip of the pressure clamp and lift up. Swing out the two film clamps. WARNING! Do not swing both film clamps at the same time! Open the film clamps and fit the film in. Standard-8-film fits in the lower perforation teeth, Super-8-film in the upper small perforation teeth.
Carefully close the film clamps and press down the pressure clamp. Both ends of the film are cut at the same time. Press in the locking devise and release the pressure clamp. Press with the right forefinger the right-hand button, and slowly move, with the left hand, the left film clamp (with the trimmed film in it) backwards and forwards in the rotating scraping head until the film is scraped clean. Swing the film clamp to the front stop. Now scrape the end of the right-hand piece of film. Use a similar procedure, but press the left-hand button. Apply the film cement and move the right-hand film clamp to the front stop and bring down the pressure clamp. After some 10-20 seconds release the pressure clamp, open both the film clamps and lift the film off from the locating pins and you should have a perfect splice! Hope this helps you.

Hello to all: Good news and good news. Martin sent me a pdf of the hahnel kollmatic,same as mine. It has a single green button on the front. So now we can use the splicer! Joe Taffis was kind enough to send me a very nice eumig z01 splicer, picked up another z01 off ebay for 0.99 cents with directions. It was just delivered. A big THANK YOU to all .
