Hi all,

I have just seen this Unviersal 8 release without never seeing the full fueature before.

What made me uncertain was the end of story. The 2 reeler tells us until the ship is attacked by enemies. And stop there.

So what is actually the continuence of the story? and is that part available on 8mm? what is the title?

Hi Winbert,
from what I remember of the 2x400 version, it ends with the survivors of the attack re-grouping and heading for a planet called Earth.
Universal also released another 2x400 version called 'Mission Galactica-The Cylon Attack.

Mal, you remember well.

"Cylon Attack" is the edit version of other episodes from the series (ie - Battlestar Pegasus reappearing again in the Colonial Fleet).
Piccolo Film released a digest of "Conquest of the Earth", the third film.

I did a review of this title, so look in the index of reviews on that page.

In short form, it's basically a slightly edited version of the first 45 minutes of the original pilot, having the finding of the cylons, the attack of the home planets, the death of Zac and the attack on the Galactica, ending with Adama calling for all the tribes to get ahold of the what ships were available to head off for earth.

Actually, it ends with Baltar, evilly surveying the destruction he caused.

"What is your Imperial leaders instructions?"

"Extermination"

"Then carry out your orders!"

I thought that it definitely caught the absolute best of that first pilot episode.

I loved the original BSG when I was a kid, but after having grown into the, um, re-imagining (now in its fourth season on Sci-Fi) I'm not sure I can ever take the original serious again and not laugh at the cheesiness of it all. o_O

Someone feel free to 1. hit me with a stick and 2. invite me for a screening of the super-8 cutdown so I can change my mind. [Wink]

Did you know Universal 8 was considering bringing out a further 2x400' release from the original "Battlestar Gallactica" movie, but ditched the idea when Universal brought out "Mission Galactica" in the cinemas (in Europe at least) and decided to do a 2x400' cut of that (which they did very well) film instead. It's a shame as the way they cut the first film, it would have been relatively easy to continue the story, oh well it was never to be, as I thought the original film was very good. I actually went to see this film at the "Empire" in Leicester Square and got the full Sensoround magic to boot (now who remembers that!).

I saw it in Sensurround at Village East End One here in Melbourne. What an impact it made especially when the fighters took of from Gallactica.

I didn't see "Galactica" in Sensurround but I did see "Earthquake" and "Midway" in that format, ironically enough at the same cinema as Barry.

Jan, consider yourself hit with a big stick!

Of course it's cheesy, that's part of the fun.

Though the new TV version of Battlestar Galactica has it's good points, I feel it's WAY to much drama and too little space battle, and that modern trend towards the jerky camera moves, (as if your actually seeing it happen) is REALLY irritating!

By the way, Dirk Benedict (original Starbuck) looks amazingly young, quite surprising. I saw him recently at a Star Trek/Battlestar convention! If I can figure out how to do it, I'll scan the actual pictures I took at the convention, and post them in "General Yak" (with Major Pain!)

Now..what is "sensuround" (any different with surround sound).

Secondly, any one to be the lucky one with unfaded colour for this title (and the other sequels)?

Winbert: Sensurround was an extremely powerful subwoofer system launched by Universal for Earthquake, later use for Midway, Rollercoaster and Galactica (I saw all four in Sensurround). Basically bass amplification that would resonate into your body (and make your teeth fall off [Big Grin] )
Battlestar Galactica was the last film released relying on that gimmick.
The system remained in use for a while At Universal Studios Tram tour for the revolving tunnel attraction inspired by Avalanche (then rethemed to Volcano and then The Mummy).

My print of Cylon Attack still has really good colours.

So, Sensurround is basically the ".1" in today's Dolby Digital 5.1/6.1/7.1/x.1 setups - also known as the LFE channel. [Smile]

Osi, I never said anything about a BIG stick! Ouch [Roll Eyes]

My 2 copies of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2 X 400FT still have good colours too!!,its a real shame one of them is badly scratched though.

It was more like .14 as there was a row of subwoofers at the bottom of the screen plus more on each sides and in the back. Plus your regular speakers... [Big Grin]

Good scan!

Re nice colors for the 3 Galacticas, dould you do me a favor, if you happen to have a time, please get some screen shots esp. for the Universal 8 (USA) releases.

This Universal 8 releases are all on Kodak SP, and some of were used to be good, but lately I checked them have now turneed brownish [Frown]

ps: is the Germany release also on Kodak SP?

My print is on Kodak SP and the color IS pristine! Too bad some of my other Universal 8 prints aren't (such as High Plains Drifter. The color isn't all the way faded, but it's off just enough to be annoying.

Is that Galactica : Conquest of the Earth, in letterbox? I know that a number of those releases from that company were letterboxed.
