Hi everyone,

Since 10 years now, I'm re-recording films in frensh ( because this is my native langage! :-)
Generaly everything is fine.
But sometime, the film I re-record has a black sound stripe and the sound is not so good as for the brown sound stripe.
The sound is trembling, for exemple.

Does anyone a good system to re-record into a black sound stripe and have a good linear sound?

Thank's.

JC.

Hi, Jean-Christophe

This problem is not new in fact it has bugged us cine collectors for about 10 years now: this kind of paste stripe seems to be quite hard to menage in terms of recording bias and tape to sound head contact; plus its quality is very inconsistent and may vary a lot. The result is that in the best cases, the high frequency output is too high and distorted due to a poor bias level (this formulation seems to require a higher bias operating point); in addition, too often there are mechanical problems; tracks too narrow and or insufficently smoothened and/or with alien particles in the paste (causing drop-outs). When you stumble in a print with such a soundstripe you can only accept the poor result (if using a GS 1200) albeit I've been told these stripes tend to perform much better on Bauer T 610 and alikes. The next best thing is to use a separate sound source for these prints like a DVD, but you must have a GS 1200 AND Pedro's Sync Box. I have to add that if prperly recorded, these tracks can be played back very well on any projector as their problems only affect recording on certain machines...
