Hi;
Can anyone tell me the specific info necessary to order a drive belt for this projector?
I see they're available on ebay, but there's no discription. I want to buy it at a local electronics store so I need some specifics.
Thanks for your help.
Rob

Sometimes people have luck with O-rings or belts for other devices such as vaccuum cleaners, but this is a trial and error situation with the odds tipped towards error.

I think the best thing is to go to somebody like isellprojectorbelts on E-bay with a specific make and model and see if he can help. Don't be too concerend if the projector you are intersted in isn't listed at the time, I had that exact problem once, asked him and found out the listing just wasn't up.

The other alternative is to find the joinable belt material and do it yourself. I've never tried this.

I guess your best bet there is to bring the deceased belts to the appliance store and ask "Do you have any like this?". Ideally round cross section belts should be replaced with round, square with square, etc., although you'll be lucky if you get to be so choosy about that part of it.

If they should ask you what it's for don't be surprised if you get a funny look. I went to an appliance store to try to buy an editor bulb once and had to explain what I was doing. The guy said "You mean like a VCR?"

I think I'll take the projector in with me tomorrow. I have faith in this certain "real" electronics store which seems to have lots of parts. If unsuccessful, I'll hit the other Vaccum etc. other places. If unsuccessful, I'll go to ebay like you suggest.
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again!

Hi Steve;
Update... I had to order one on ebay. I'll tell you how long it took when I get it.

Hi Robert,

You're better off this way. It's better to get the right belt: too tight it binds, too loose it slips.

The ones I got were perfect.

I vacationed in New Brunswick about 20 years ago: nice country!

Hi Steve;
I moved here from Montreal in 1971. So many good things have happened to me here. I have never regretted it.

Hi Steve; Well the belts finally came from Newport News. The only problem is that they're O rings instead of the belt the picture shows on Van's website. I consider this to be misleading. Why show the real v belt then send an O ring?
I noticed that elsewhere the belt cost $10 instead of $3. Maybe they are the real required v belt.
a la prochaine!

Hi Rob,

At this stage of the game I say "give 'em a go!". Just because they are the wrong profile is no reason they absolutely won't work.

New Brunswick is actually kind of special to me. When I crossed the border at Calais/St. Stephen it was the first time I was ever outside the USA. In the years since I've been to Mexico, Germany, Austria and Russia. It's a big world, and well worth seeing. I want to see some more of it!

I remember one day we went over to Kings Landing in Fredricton and saw the restoration there. It was wonderful! Very educational as well: While I was there I learned the difference between an ox and a bull (errrr OUCH!!!!) On the way back Mom and Dad bought a tank of gas on a credit card. To this day they haven't received a bill! The hospitality of Canadians is amazing!

..but seriously folks: the country was beautiful, the people were friendly, the time is remembered fondly.

Hi Steve;

The o ring seems to be working (for a few hours so far). Maybe it'll be ok.

The reason why I moved to New Brunswick as exactly as you say... the people are extremely friendly, and the place is beautiful... and I was getting tired of the grit of downtown Montreal, to say nothing of the bombs that were being planted in mailboxes by the FLQ.
Regards,
