Sometimes I wonder (where I've been... Who I am [Big Grin] ... Just remebering this evergreen song).

I was saying... I wonder if there's a title you would really like to have on 8mm for a particular reason (an unforgettable moment, the greatest love of you life, great feelings, you do like that actor/actress or director).

I'm not only considering existing prints, but just the one/ones you all wish, or dream to have.

My choices:

* Tornatore's NUOVO CINEMA PARADISO. I love that movie. The way Alfredo and Salvatore like cinema is simply magic;

* Leone's ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. One of my favorite ever. Great script, great actors, great direction. A masterpiece reminding me a happy childhood. I was so fascinated while watching it at cinema when first released in 1984. Not boread at all (even if it was a very long feature and I was so young).

It would be great to have them on 8mm.

Now, what about you?

Hi Gian,

"Once upon a time in américa" was release by Film Office, in frensh, but it was an abridged version ( 1h20, I think).

For me, the film I will see in super 8 was "AIRPORT" (of course! ), but now, I've find it in 35mm, technicolor ( waouw! ).

But There are 2 films ( or meabe 3) I would lilke to see in super 8:
1) LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, in scope, with intermission.
2) MIDWAY, in scope too.
3) THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY ( starring John Wayne ), in scope too.

Regards,

JC.

Well, alot of titles have come and gone through the years, as my tastes change. But, one consistent title that I have always wanted to see on super 8, is-

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

This 1983 film starring Mel Gibson, was so impressive to me on the big screen. I was working in the theater back then, and tried to watch it every time it came on.

The cinemascope cinematography was fantastic, as well as the impressive music score. Lots of good action, and atmosphere.

James.

I agree with Gian for Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, even if I know some copies in 16mm exist.

Maybe the one I'd like to have is The Godfather saga (I have the complete italian print for the godfather, but it's not a good print)

I agree with James!

"The Road Warrior" has magnificent photography. The camera at many times is literally inches away from the ground, actually looking up at the vehicles and it really gave you the impression of being there! That scope image, with those close-ups roaring by at top speed really put you "in the drivers seat"! Good choice James.

I also agree that "Anastasia" would make a good choice. The music was very good. I think, (personally), that this was Don Bluth's high point. The Secret of Nimh and American Tale were well received, but "Anastiasa" also had what really becomes a very good romance with realistic performances ... and in animation. That's not easy to really easy to do.

Perhaps its not the greatest movie ever made but the 8mm print that has always evaded me is SOLDIER BLUE,the last sighting for me was on Derann's used list in the late 80's.but it was sold to someone else prior to my telephone call.

I think it was originally released in Italy so it could have possibly been a bootleg print but surprisingly it was in english!!

I wonder if any of our forum members still have it in there collection??

Mark, great choice (and movie).

I have a terrible piece of news for you: SOLDIER BLUE was definitely issued here in Italy (pirate print). One of the worst movie ever released in 8mm.

I had and sold my copy longtime ago. I really don't miss it. But I wish you to find a good one. Good luck.

Wish I could find it on 16mm, would be almost as cool on 8mm, has to be my favourite film- 'Phantom of the Paradise'. Don't ask me why it's my favourite film, everyone does (when they're not saying 'ooh are you sure you don't mean 'Phantom of the Opera' [Mad] ) and I really don't know, it just is, 92 minutes of pure and total genius. Of course I've got more hope of finding Lord Lucan but I can dream can't I?! Failing that Clockwork Orange would be cool! That's the hell of it...

Mikael.

P.S. Being one of those crazy Doctor Who fan people either of the 60s Cushing movies would be cool too!

Well, you all know about the ones I really dream.
But I forgot to mention Disney's TREASURE PLANET.

I love Stevenson's novel. And this recent animated version really stunned me at cinema.

NUOVO CINEMA PARADISO is the film of my life. It takes me back to my childhood , the hours I spent in the projection box of the local cinema, the bits of film I collected, etc. I would love to have this film on 8mm. I have it though in DVD and I watch it again and again. It is a beautiful movie in many ways.

I would like to see some of the recent family type films released say as a 600ft scope/stereo digest.
THE WATERHORSE would make a good digest.
the latest JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH
as for full lengeth features say VALKYRIE
Oh and also a scope feature and 600ft digest of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG.

Mikael, I agree about "Phantom of the Paradise." Check out my latest blog post and you'll see what I think...

The 2003 "Peter Pan"would also be fantastic; really excellent version. And of course the "LOTR" films...

Mikael and Kurt

I'm with you both on PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE!

I love that film and it is also one of my favorites.

I was told of the existense of a trailer reel on super 8 with PHANTOM, 200 MOTELS(Zappa) and THE MAGIC CHRISTIAN! Man, I'd like to find that one!

Bill, I could be wrong, but I'd swear that I remember seeing a print of the feature "Magic Christian" on super 8. It might have been a pirated feature and I remember the listing saying that the color was faded, but I do believe that it exists on Super 8.

Bill and Kurt, glad I'm not the only person outside of Winnipeg who thinks 'Phantom' is brilliant! I stumbled across a website recently and the guy who runs it says he has a mint 16mm print of it, unfortunately he does not seem in the least interested to part with it [Frown]
