Ok, here is the topic.
We can count here how many collectors would like to buy a full lenght S8 print of CARS.
This is only a tehoretic list, we are not in the possition to make a release because it is forbidden to own a 35mm print, [Frown]

but maybe someone who can arrange a release read this topic. [Wink]

Guys, I don't wish to cast a "downer" on this subject but please be careful about what is "proposed" and what artwork is published on the Forum.

Christians' box artwork is great but when you start to use "Disney" and "Pixar", on an open Forum, it can become a "little dangerous" with regards to "copyright".

We had a similar problem about 18 months ago with a "proposed release" of a certain "T3" title and the way it was being promoted. The thread was eventually removed by one of the moderators to preserve the integrity of the Forum.

Please don't think me a "killjoy" I would like to see such a release myself but not to the detriment of this splendid forum or the people involved.

Having possibly created a "downer", please let me wish you all a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year for 2010.

If "CARS" was ever to be released on the super 8 format, I would certainly purchase a 2 x 400 foot digest. Probably not a full-feature though, as I'm not a huge CGI animation fan.

Although, if "Up" were ever available, I would jump at a feature!

I think its highly unlikely a cutdown/digest would ever be released again due to the cost and time for editing. Who would do it and who would print it. The 2 big companies in the UK have already made it clear they prefer full episodes/features due to the lower demand today and initial cost. You could do it independatally using the german labs, but having a 35mm negative is only the start. Im no expert but you would have to have a lump of cash just to get a super 8 neg made and then many many orders to run off affordable copies. You could of course just get 1 or 2 copies printed but unless you are a millionaire, forget it.

Still I think ****nn made the trailer which still might be available. Better than nothing.

Sorry to tell it like it is, but it would only happen if one of the big boys decides to go for it and uses their contacts (and money), but at the moment that's unlikely.

It's nice to have the enhusiasm on this forum but people need to be realistic.

Thanks for that info Gian. Yes a lot of new trailers seem to get discontinued not long after they come out. Its a case of buy quickly when they are available.

I didnt want to cast too much of a downer on the whole idea if Cars is one of your favourite films. Personally the one Pixar feature or extract I would love most is Finding Nemo but again I cant see it happening at the moment. I hope End Of Days isnt the last movie film produced on super 8 (excluding adverts and short films etc.) but it seems things have stalled on the new releases front to the point that they have given up.

However if you really want a 2x400ft release there is no reason why you cant have 2 complete 18 minute sequences and just splice on the opening titles and the end.

There are hundreds of titles, recent and not, that would be great to have on 8mm. But of course I know it would be quite impossible to see them issued on this format.

I'm quite sure CARS or FINDING NEMO will never be released on 8mm (oh... My favorite is RATATOUILLE, anyway).
But it's good to know at least there could be a possibility.

Who knows?
Here's a link to my copy of CARS trailer (not the best, although the sound is EXCELLENT - I was using my Elmo ST 1200 HD; it's a very short one). I will delete it if there is any problem.

You are right about the fact that some trailers were immediately discontinued after they came out. I'll give my right hand to find Disney's TREASURE PLANET and Pixar's FINDING NEMO, Graham. I'm after them and I know there are some, out there. I cannot unfortunately find a single copy [Frown]

. And yes, it is probably because I was not quick enough to buy them, when they were available.

Well, we could even stop to write about this project here on the forum as Keith (welcome back!) has suggested for the reasons we all know. But, once again, in case I'M IN Oemer [Big Grin]

For me an edit version of the C*rs film in 2x400 would be fine.
A full version will be very expensive, for some of us, in the forum. I believe with the edit version we will find more volunteers. I am one of them.

I did some editing/cutting on it last night just for giggles, and I think a 2x400 version would be really hard to make without cutting vital parts and/or removing characters or subplots.

A 3x400' would be alot easier to make.

The editor tends to keep everything resulting longer reels. But company needs to cut down the production cost.

Please remember that one of MGM editor was forced to make 16 minutes editing version of 3.5 hours Ben-Hur (1959)...heeheeehe... [Big Grin]

(and also 197 minutes of Doctor Zhivago).

So keep your work pal....try to limit only on important scenes. Some scenes may be to dear to be deleted, but look onto general story, i.e :

First race ---> No winner ----> McQueen is transported to another city ---> trapped in a loose town ---> meeting with the town's dwellers (here you have to cut some the not-too-important scenes) ---> McQueen is found ----> Back to Race ---> THE END

What do you think?

Although I'd be amazed if 'Cars' actually was released, Derann still sell Disney features so it's probably true to say that theoretically they could release a recent Disney/Pixar film, so long as Disney are still willing to provide a negative and Derann are willing to make whatever investment is required.

I don't know what quantity of sales would be needed to make such a release viable, but if Adrian Simmonds was guaranteed advance deposits from, say, 50 collectors, he might conceivably at least think about it! As 'Cars' was the very last film to be made available (for hire) on 16mm in the USA, I suppose it might be possible to borrow the negative used for this and thereby reduce costs. I think it's impossible that Disney would approve an edited version, though.
