Tonight i watch the little mermaid Deranns first Disney feature.
I know this movie is a littlebit out of focus,but as i say earlier i have black spots and i can't remove them with Filmguard!
My question is can anyone help me with this frustrating problem,are there companies that can clean this movie.
I clean and i clean and i clean,but enough is enough!
This is not normal,and before i think to sell this one will i do everything to fix it! [Frown]

maybe i can help you but i need you send me a photo or better a scan of the frames to give you some advice,as you know im a film restorer but i need to see the kind of damage to valorate it and give a treatment.Sometimes is hard to quit some kind of dirty dots and must be do frame by frame with a special formula we use in labs... sometimes including ultrasonic wawes but i dont think this is the case and maybe the film just need some quemical treatment.Please send me a photo or scan to projectionman (a) hotmail dot com.If the dirt is all over the reel maybe i need a little piece of 10 frames of the leader to make a medition of the damage in our spectral equipment.

I don't kknow how to scan,so it will be a photo.
The only thing i can say is that this movie lose some dust(if you cal this dust)it are grey/black flogs and if you rub it thrue your fingers it's pulvering. [Eek!]

so i think i can't clean it myself!

I dont want to rush and say to much without see the damage but by your explanation maybe your film are loosing a little bit of the sound stripe and its for that reason that everytime you show the print it looks more and more dirty,i figth once with a terminator print that has that kind of trouble for a friend and now the print its like new but it took 4 weeks because i had that apply a very thing magnetic fastener to the stripe of the print meter by meter after clean it,so please send the a good quality photo to valorate it.

It definitely sounds like the stripe is deteriorating and flaking off when the print is run. I have a print similar to this (an optical print with mags applied, and the stripes just aren't holding up). Eventually I'll have to have the stripes replaced, or removed and leave it that way, but at least I'd have the optical track still.

I think also that it is the stripe,so my whole movie is a piece op crap now.
I hope that someone can fix it,the movie is in bad condition! [Frown]

I´ll be glad to help you once i see the photos and see if my suspicions are true about the magnetic track.You can send the film to spain i can make the treatment in my job place as i do with other friends prints but you must wait one and a half month at least because now we are very busy restoring originals negatives from the spanish nature series" the man and the earth" for a special blue ray edition,once i finish the negative jobs i´ll send you a mail with my private address to solve the problem if is possible,for the moment i recommend stop cleaning the print because too much quemical may deteriorate more the magnetic track and try to pass very slowly a velvet to quit the superficial dirt of magnetic,then store it in the box(best if is a carboard or homopolymer polypropylene box,forget metal box or cans) and keep the print very far away from loudspeakers because the big magnetic field that the loudspeakers have are very dangerous for the magnetic track of super 8 and can in some cases erase or seriously damage the magnetic track.i´ll keep informed about the progress on your print and what is the best treatment for it once i have it on my hands, vented cans is what i recomend for archiving film.

So you can repair my mermaid?is this a lot of money?or is this not to expensive.
Is this cheaper then a new movie?

First i have to see the damage and if it can be repaired i´ll very glad to do it at my job using our professional equipment,i do that sometimes for friends with the autorization of my boss.You only have to pay the shipping because the chemicals i´ll use are mine ,i only have to ask the use of the machines to my boss.For me is a pleasure help to all collectors of this forum in this kind of matters about restoration because for me every print saved i as bit of history saved.As i told you before you just have to wait a little until i finish the restoration were im working and then i´ll send you a mail,i think it will better you only send one reel first and once finish send other reel.
I hope we can sing soon toguether "under the sea"...without dust

I'am glad to hear that,tonight i watch it and make some pics.
This weekend i send the pics,the whole movie is terrible with that black spots and scratches.
