Hi,

I'm looking to get a camera repaired. I'm wondering how much would it cost me to get an 8mm zoomatic repaired. We're talking like to replace a major spring or a clock spring. Anyone know?

Vanessa, type into Google "NYC 8mm camera repairs" and see what comes up.

I think you will find however that buying a good used model from ebay or similar would be your cheapest option.

I had a Minolta XL-401 serviced and lubed through the local camera shop. First I had to endure the "Why don't you just get a camcorder?" speech (Answer: "I already have one."). Then the guy had to negotiate with his service people to see if they would even take the job, even though I sent the camera with a service manual. If the camera wasn't mint (other than the squeal) I don't think I'd be bothered.

PS: It turned out fine.

I hope in your case something has just become detached or maladjusted because if you need a part it will become very challenging.

Du-All Camera is a major super-8 repair place in NY, but it's not going to be cheap.

I think a new camera would be a better choice in this case.

David and Claus, I know that Ebay is cheaper but I just wanted to get an idea of what it would roughly cost me based on other people's experience. If it's around 100 dollars I don't mind paying for a repair. I'll even pay for a little bit higher. I just wanted to get an idea of what to expect so I could decide for myself.

Thank you Steve. I'm not sure how much this is going to run me but it seems I might have to ask around. People might charge different rates based on how experienced they are with this kind of stuff. Unfortunately for me, I think a spring gave out because this camera doesn't have life anymore. But it's somewhat of a sentimental camera, so I don't want to just be forced to throw it away. If I can find a way to fix it, I'll just try.

Also, thank you Claus for that website! I bookmarked it, I'm going to look into anything I can find.
