Andreas, I have "Love is all (Butterfly Ball)" by Dio and it's always a winner when I screen it as a supporting program. Also, some songs by French artists like Claude François work everytime.

Andreas-

I think the idea is very good. The problem is, I havent seen any of the really good videos available on super 8 yet, like "Beat It" or "Watching the Days Go By" (Talking Heads), or even an alternate style music video like "Fish Heads", or something from Wierd Al.

I have "Another Brick in the Wall". While its not bad, it lacks the energy of a well made, well choriographed music video. Concert footage would have been better for this one on super 8. I think this might actually be a clip from the movie "Pink Floyd's The Wall".

But I would honestly like to see a nice, stylish, or high-energy video on my big super 8 screen. In STEREO!!

Nick.

Nick,
what do you understood with "stylish, or high-energy video on my big super 8 screen. In STEREO!!"

Something from the 80s?

I've once seen a Super8-music-"video" with Heino ("Heino singt Lieder der Berge", 70m, colour, sound, piccolo, order number 3246)... you really don't want to show that to your audience... ;-)

There are several Super8-music-"videos" with the Beatles from Inter-Pathé, but I haven't seen any of them. (Search here for "Beatles": http://www.super8online.de/suchen.php )

Having a Super8-version from Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" would be cool though since it was shot on 35mm by Aardman Animations... .

I've seen "Video Killed the Radio Star" and I think the quality is OK. I have a print but I've never got round to screening it. I also have The Police performing 'Can't Stand Loving You' on some TV show. Good print but awful sound on my copy. I hope to re-record it one day. I think Derann got these from some French source, judging from the leaders.

There are also some old Std and Super 8 releases in the UK and Europe that feature Scopitone-type films from the 1960s. There's one featuring The Moody Blues miming 'Nights In White Satin' that's currently offered on eBay. I have a print and it's not bad.

If anyone would be interested, I have a very rare compilation of Super 8 films actually used in a Scopitone-type machine in France around the early 80s. They have magnetic sound that is unfortunately out of sync on a normal projector, so need re-recording.

Another variety is the film promo type that's available from Derann or Classic. E.g. Classic offer 'Goldeneye' with Tina Turner singing the title song interspersed with clips from the film.

I'm all for more material of this type. We got 'Dancing in the Street' from Derann not long ago.

I also have the "Can't Stand Losing You" music video on Super 8 and, unfortunately, the sound is lousy on mine as well. I hope to have it rerecorded one day.

Still I hope that more of these "music videos" will be released on Super 8. I purchased the "Dancing In The Street" print not because I like the song or the video content, but I wanted to support these type of music video releases. I also have the "Goldeneye" music promo and it is very entertaining.

I just got a copy of the Police clip "Can't Stand Losing You" and the print is great. It has very nice color but it does have bad sound. I was glad to hear that my copy isn't much different than the other ones mentioned here. This clip needs good sound!

Has anyone ever re-recorded this title? This would be a good experiment for me to do I suppose because it's only 3 min long. I have never messed with recording sound on film.

Maybe I'll have to give it a try.

I have a copy of "Video killed the radio star", sung by "The Buggles". Nice print with good colours. It's okay.

I've got a real oddity in my collection (alas not a space oddity).
I've got a 200ft reel of French 70s Disco Diva Sheila B Devotion singing 'Singin in the rain'
Yes it is the Fred Astaire song - you can't make this stuff up.
The actual quality is not impressive. It looks suspiciously like a copy of a video.
I think it was part of a series, though just how successful that series was is a mystery to me,
John

Fred Astaire sung "Singing in the rain", too ?
I thought it was Gene Kelly... [Confused]

Gene Kelly's was the original, and iconic, version. If Astaire sang it it would be a pale imitation! But the definitive version has to be Morecambe and Wise. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Wink] [Wink]

John, there were several titles in super 8 of French pop singers released at the end of the 70s, as a continuation to the scopitone mania.
I think Elan Film (from Belgium) struck the prints. There was indeed Sheila's version of Singin in the Rain, but also other artists like France Gall, Claude François, Dalida and Karen Cheryl.

Michael,
you are of course correct, but please bear in mind my ownership of the Sheila B Devotion version speaks volumes for my musical knowledge of classic songs [Big Grin]
Jean-Marc,
my film was release No. 1 for the somewhat appropiately named 'Discofilms', it's possible it was their only release. The distributor was CCI of Paris.
Like Martin my favourite version was Morecambe and Wise,
John

Bill - I still have not made a serious attempt to re-record my "Can't Stand Losing You", but at least I now have a CD with the song! If I make any progress, I'll say so, but I might invite an expert to do it!

As I said, it is a collection, and although branded "DiscoFilms", Elan could have been behind it as they release other music films, including the Claude François bio documentary (he dies in 1978). And the packaging is the same.
The "Dalida" print is missing from the collection here, but attached is also a scan of another series, possibly from Germany, that featured a lot of French singers and other artists from other countries :
