Has anybody seen any of the prints of these that are around? Who released these titles? How's the colour generally?

Michael - On Super 8 it was released by,I think, DFS. I had a print a couple of years ago and the quality was very good indeed. It's even better if you can find one recorded in stereo.

It's definately worth a purchase, if the price is right, of course.

"War Games" was originally a Ken Films release. I believe the Ken negative ended up at Derann.

Thanks Keith.

How about THE JOLSON STORY? Who released this full feature? Has the colour held up on these prints?

It's still in the Derann site:

WAR GAMES 6 x 400ft. Col. Price code. U

(In "Horror/Adventure/Sci-Fi")

Great movie: worth watching if for no other reason than seeing the prehistoric computer gear! after all, not only does he use an analog modem, it's one of those you actually stuff the phone handset into. I remember those in the Computer Lab back in Junior High!

At least he had a monitor and a keyboard instead of punch cards or a teletype.

Makes me want to revive my Commodore!

Derann also re-released "The Jolson Story" after Columbias original release. I had the original Columbia release, issued in blue "mock leather" boxes with gold embossed Columbia Logo and lettering. That particular print had fade as it was on acetate.

The Derann re-release is much better being on polyester. The colours on my print are quite good.

A great "sing-along" movie in my opinion. Larry Parks did a very good job in the role of Jolson.

Both Foster's and Independent 8 have Jolson Story prints. Since they are 600 foot reels they are from Derann. I had a print of this and it is good but not as good as a 16mm Technicolor print.

I certainly wouldn't expect an 8mm print to be anywhere near as nice as a dye transfer 16mm print - but, you won't find the 16mm print for £120, that's for certain.
