What happened to the original boxes? And the guard dogs?

Coincidentally, the new and improved Closet O' Film is almost done. I'll post pics upon completion.

I'm looking at that picture from a different point of view now: weight!

I project in a different room than I store my films in, so we agreed that developing at least a partial stash upstairs would keep the piles of films on the table down.

We have a hassock that has a hinged lid, so I filled it with 200 foot films this week.

It's great having the films where I need them, and easy to put them away when I'm done, the only problem is when you need to slide this piece of furniture out of the way it's heavy now!

The room in the picture looks like it's on a concrete slab: probably not a bad idea!

Well, the ones that are stacked appear to be in metal or plastic containers, so no chance of "squishing" ...

Ohhhh Mr. Meltzer, if I'm ever over your way, I would LOVE to check out your room, even if I could only look but not take!

I only hope there is a damp proof membrane in that concrete
floor,or he just might have a problem with mould, not to mention
the dust getting on the film, ans as Osi rightly says, the filmstock
being crushed by weight.

Mmmmm....

Even from here I can smell just a hint of vinegar!

I'm working on a project that is built in this huge building with a concrete floor. Right as the construction firm was ready to turn the place over to us to install our machine inside they applied a sealer to the floor. What they didn't realize is the sealer was incompatible with the hardner in the concrete and for about a week the floor was tacky while everyone expected "dry".

-We were delayed about two months while they stripped several acres of floor and tried it again.

(Shame: we were on schedule up until then...)

I am pretty sure I know whose vault that is. What bothers me about it is the reels are out of cans to prevent vinegar but they can get dusty. And concrete dust is abrasive.

Looks like it may be a tiled floor, to me.

It might even be Joe Dante's lock up,as I understand he has a large collection.I was watching a programme the other day about the TV Comedian and actor Bob Monkhouse, who was one of the
first people to have a video recorder in the UK and had the sixth
largest private film collection in the world. He was also responsible
for having copies of TV shows that the stations had wiped, thus
saving many episodes of shows for posterity, and we think we have large collections.

Some have such large collections that they had to have bought packages cheap to wind up with such quantity. But when its that large its more costly to maintain. And who has enough time to watch it all? I remember going through and sorting bulk lots of prints at Celebrity Films. It was a lot of work and quite time consuming. And those piles of prints were heavy! But those large lots were slated to be Destroyed! [Wink]

Whether tiled or not, let's hope there's some concrete close at hand!

Doesn't take a lot of math to come up with a wieght equivalent to at least one decent sized car!
