Does anyone know if The Omega Man was ever released on Super 8?

With all due respect, you should post this in "8mm forum" instead of this "8mm reviews". Moderator if you can move this please.

Btw, welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the show Jordan, I can honestly say that I have never
come across this title on S/8, but that doesn't mean to say that
it isn't out there. It might be on Opt. sound or a release in Italy,
where many films were made available, some were pirate copies
but still worth having, perhaps some Italian members can shed some light on this elusive movie.Happy hunting.

Hugh, What do you mean "pirate copies" these prints are archive copies preserved for future generations enjoyment. The more collectors that have them the better for film preservation. [Big Grin]

That's very true David, and I whole heartedly agree, although
convincing the owners of the copyrights might take a bit of doing.
Somehow I think Jordan's film could turn up under an Italian title.
I find it fascinating the amount of stuff I had no idea had been
put out on the bootlace, that suddenly becomes apparent.

The Omega Man was this the one with Mr Epic himself? Charlton Heaston, Vincent Price did a version "The Last Man On Earth" think they are others too.

The Heaston version sticks in my mind he dies in a fountain at the end.

The copyright owners need the collector. They are only interested in ££££$$$$ we are not we love film. They should give every film collector an original print for us to preserve.

Damm woke-up.

I know that "Soylent Green" made it out onto super 8 as a feature, and in scope! I'm not quite sure if this one made it as well!

I'm sure it was never released as a feature or a digest in the UK or the USA. However there's the promo that was released by Red Fox. I have this - it runs about 10 mins and it's called 'The Last Man Alive'. Interestingly, I discovered via a review that it's an extra on this DVD release:

Forgive me, Winbert in Canada. I am new to this forum.

Thank you for the welcome Hugh in England!

It's very surprising to me that there weren't at least any 400ft or 200ft releases of The Omega Man in the U.S. back in the 70s. I surely would've thought those existed out there somewhere.

And yes, there have been three versions of Matheson's book "I am Legend". The Last Man on Earth w/Vincent Price, The Omega Man and I am Legend w/ Will Smith.

I do find it interesting that The Last Man Alive Featurette was available on Super8. And yes this is on all versions of the dvd (as far as I know). It was even on the widescreen laserdisc. (The Omega Man was shot in the scope aspect ratio.)
