So...there is a 400ft Cineavision print as well as Ken's own full frame Scope version.

Now then...

Osi says,

"I have a copy of "STAR WARS", the unofficial "Cineavision" scope print, that is actually taken from a print that was not too far distanced from a first run 1977 print, complete with the 1977 subtitles and original scroll at the beginning. I have compared frame by fram in some cases, the Derann STAR WARS and this STAR WARS and you see, (especially on the last reel in the last battle sequence) the splice lines from shot to shot, which were cleaned up and off of the later re-issue prints (which the Derann print was taken from)."

As far as I know, this is print which has black bars either side to give a 2.35:1

Never connected to "Cineavision", although the framing is similar.

Osi, please PM me with any unofficial info regarding this print.

I know it exists, but why keep referring to it as Cineavison???

Cineavision was the company that released these prints (also many others including 1 x 400' of Born Free, 3 x 400ft of Ben Hur and some Tom & Jerry cartoons) in the original 35mm print ratio by "proportional reduction". Run a Dutchman by the name of Van Tettering IIRC.

Thanks Brian; I am well aware of Cineavision and history, but thanks all the same.

My question is regarding the full length print of Star Wars to Osi.

Hey Rob ...

I refer to it as "Cineavision", only because it has, as you stated, the black bars on the left and right of the screen, giving it the original full 35MM anamorphic frame.

As far as I know, it was never an official cineavision print, just has the effort taken to preserve that cineavision scope style. I believe that the same person who released the STAR WARS "cineavision" scope print is the same person or persons that did the "cineavision" scope style "Empire Strikes Back "cineavision" scope style print ...

But alas, while VERY sharp, it was printed on KODAK SP! The print that I sold a year or two ago, while it still had very good color, the blacks were no longer perfect. sadness!

Ken films released the second STAR WARS extract in both scope and flat, but when Ken Films did the scope extract, they didn't do that black bars on the left and right hand side, and just printed it full frame. Still nice to have that extract in scope though and fortunately, my copy has retained it's color.

I wonder if we'll ever find out where these prints came from?

I doubt it, unless someone who originally bought these in the day when they came out could step up and let us know.

For instance, I'll probably never know who manufactured my "Cloee Encounters of the Third Kind" scope (1977 version and not the Derann "special edition" release).

but it might be a product of what brought forth the "Superman: The Movie" Full length scope super 8. Mind you, it's only rumors as far as I know, but they're apparantly were prints that were struck for off shore oil rigs, (as the workers would be out there for extended periods of time), and at least, that seems to be what I've heard of or that particular print, (Superman), but I would love to know if that were true.
