I have both a Chinon 7500 and 6100Z. Both mechanisms inside seem exactly the same design, but you may recall the muffled sound I was getting on the 7500. I find I can achieve perfect sound when I slightly move the position of the lower pressure plate under the sound head. The service manual says to adjust the azimuth screw but fails to highlight which this is...does anyone know? Also, on the 7500 the lower sound head pressure plate is loose, yet fixed tight on the other machine. Should it be like this on the 7500? There appears to be no way of tightening it.

Hi Simon, the azimuth setting is set at 90 degrees to the tape travel, so any small screw that adjusts this 90 will probably be the correct screw, one side is normally fixed, and its opposite side will be spring loaded, this is where you should do any adjust if at all.
