I have the above machine with a problem, was working fine one moment, I then changed the gate over to super 8 and sprockets and the the film just rolls thru changed back to standard 8 and still just rolls thru the gate. Can't see any broken parts etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the claw isn't engaging for whatever reason.

Lee Mannering is something of an expert on these older Eumigs.
Hopefully he, or other Eumig experts will be able to guide you further James.

Hello James.
Sounds odd !!.
Maybe a broken clawpin !!!
It is very important to retrackt clawpin before changing the frame.( Marking -->12 o,clock position on mainshaft "wheel" )
The mainshaft is visible by a litlle wheel at the back off the projector.

Kind regards

almost certainly sounds like the claw pin has broken off.
without trying to sound patronising Euan, but you didn't forget to turn the milled inching knob at the back to put the dot at the top before pulling the gates out did you? [Wink]

It does sound like you have broken off the claw pin when you changed gauges. ken Finch.

It's a great pity that Eumig made no mention of retracting the claw when changing gates of their dual-gauge models. Unlike the single gauge models the dual gauge models only had a single claw, and once this was broken, the projector was almost destined for the scrap-heap.
At an earlier period no doubt a repair could have been achieved when spares were readily available.
A note, just inside the cover would have been sufficient. It is a sad reality these days that second-hand projectors rarely are accompanied by their instruction book.
For reasonably priced and well printed manuals I cannot recommend Oldtimer Cameras too highly. Whilst they appear to only provide camera manuals they also have manuals for projectors.

I couldn't agree with you more Maurice. The amount of people I have spoken to that think there is no need for the manuals is unbelievable.

I would never think I was getting the best from any projector I have ever owned without first reading the manual in full, then referring to it regularly for all slightly unusual tasks.

In the case of the RM8008, I would have thought it faulty had I have not read and understood the manual fully, on several occasions of doing different recording tasks.

I cannot recommend "Old Timers" enough. They have come up with service and instruction manuals many times for the machines I've owned. Very good service indeed!

If my memory serves me correctly, the manual states that the dot on the rear thumb knob, must be positioned at 12 O' Clock before attempting to change the plates.

Based upon the model, the lens may need to be removed or extended to provide adequate space to clear the plate from interfering with the rear of the lens.

The 810D may have 2 plates for each format, but the 822D has 3 plates. There is one gate plate that's interchangeable and used with the one Standard 8, or the one Super 8 aperature plate which is provided with the machine.

The gate plate on the 822D model has a spring tensioned shield that must be compressed and removed before removing the aperture plate.

Hi James,
I also have this Eumig and can say without doubt You have changed the gate without first putting RED dot at 12-0 clock. I have even put a warning note on top of the projector so I don`t forget when I`m changing the gate. I hope you can get another pin?

I have an 810D HQS I have had for about 6 months and thanks to years of reading the forums about these I was aware of such things. But I can understand if you don't know and don't have the manual to tell you how you could easily break it. Hope you are able to get it fixed but if not remember the machine is still valuable as a parts unit.
