As most collectors know GB Movie-paks were issued on 16mm sound (some silent) and on silent standard 8. But these were discontinued before Super 8 made its appearance.
So I was most surprised to come across a Super 8 sound issue of "Winston Churchill". It's in a white box but has a full printed label (in black & white) with an overlap for the side title. Surprising that it's not in colour.
On examination, it's obviously been made up of photo-stat copies from the 16mm box cover for issue P.4021 no. 1 Winston Churchill from the "Gallery Of The Great" series. The original cover has been cut up to separately show the round GB Logo, Movie-paks and the original stick-on label with the information and picture of Churchill. Also added are the screen with the Rank gong-man, and the words SUPER 8 SOUND.
The print is a straight copy of the 16mm issue but bears no other information as to its origin. Does anybody know who issued this (pirate?) copy and were any other Movie-paks similarly issued on Super 8?

Hi Maurice,
My hunch is you got this one from Paul Foster. I bought mine from him about five or six years ago and it's still showing in his 8mm shorts listing. He must have a bunch of them!
(I'd just finished reading a Churchill biography and it seemed a natural thing to buy.)
It has to be the dupy-est print I have. With all the accumulated contrast it feels a little like watching the negative.

No, Steve, I didn't buy my print from Paul Foster, although a previous owner could have possibly bought it from him. However, Paul seems unlikely to have been the actual distributor.

Just had a chance to run this print and I find it's on colour stock. Were they many distributors still in existence when black and white stock was phased out? I also have a copy of "Whoops" (old planes) which is also in a white box with a stick-on label, and is also on colour stock. This says it's a Perry's Movies release. I wonder. ???
