Some of these plastic clips came on a couple reels I have. I'm not too sure how to use them. One style has a slit on the top and the other one doesn't. If they are used to hold down the end of the film...I don't see how.

When spools came with new projectors there were four of these clips mounted at 90 degrees intervals. They were to protect the spool from being inadvertently pinched.
