Instead of a drive belt, some Eumig projectors use a clutch system driven by a vertically mounted motor. This pivots on two nylon mountings enclosing brass bearings. I used the search facility on this site and found that various home-made replacements had been conjured up by some members on here with considerable skill. Is there, though, a commercial source for these parts to keep these great machines going when the nylon mountings, like the feet, fall apart?

The Eumig 700 and 800 series plastic motor pivot bushings would make a great 3-D printing project for the Edwin Van Eck team. The bushings are very simple geometry, so they should not be too expensive.
Many years ago I had some machined up from DELRIN AF plastic, and they worked very well.

This is a part i almost had re manufactured in the past. I couldn't get my hands on a good one to copy and the company had a minimum order of at least 100 so as i only had a few replies on it i never went ahead.
I myself would definatley like at least 4 of these.

This would be an excellent project for Edwin as I am sure there must be a large number of the Eumig and Bolex machines still in use amongst us who would be interested. It would be sensible to have spares available even if they are not needed at the moment.

I made my own from epoxy and they worked great. Only problem is I sold the projector some time later and don't quite remember how I did it.

Hello all!

I have good news!

These pivots / motor mounts are now ready!

 -

You can order these via: http://shop.van-eck.net/PP-0138.html?_globalsearch=pp-0138

Eumig Mark, 700 - 800 series - motor mounts (2 pcs) (PP-0138)

The original engine mounting clips are often brittle and break off in pieces. The engine no longer functions properly.

These new motor mounts will resolve this issue.

These are made from durable nylon with a sintered bronze bearing.

Fits among others on the following projectors:
Eumig Mark 8
Eumig Mark DL
Eumig Mark M
Eumig Mark S
Eumig Mark S 706
Eumig Mark S 709
Eumig Mark S 710
Eumig Mark S 712
Eumig Sound 800
Eumig Mark S 802
Eumig Mark S 807
Eumig Mark S 810
Eumig 820 Sonomatic
Eumig 824 Sonomatic

If you have any other 3D printing fabrication requests, please let me know!

That's good new for some Eumig owners (including Will) from Edwin.
At €21.95 for the pair they should get some old projectors fully working again.

yes, indead, I think many Eumig projectors can be revived using these parts. And the price is including 21% VAT, and also there is discount when you buy 2 or more sets!

I agree, Edwin's company is providing an invaluable service to all us film collectors. These motor bearings on the Eumig will crack or disintegrate after 30 or so years, and the new part with the bronze bushing, to distribute the load stresses, looks superb.
Now, are all us Eumig owners asking too much for Edwin to produce new drive discs for these machines, with new Butyl rubber surfaces? That, combined with the new motor inserts, would give the Eumig's a whole new life.

We had a look before in producing these discs. But this will not be an easy task to do in small quantities. It is not a "simple" 3d printing task.

Anyway will put it on my wish list. If anyone has suggestions for me in producting these discs, please let me know!

I have, on a scrap Mark 8 just to see how it worked. It's easy enough to remove but tricky to re-assemble. There's a sleeve on the motor shaft with a ball which has to engage with a slot in the speed change lever. There's also a tiny spring which fell out but I couldn't work out where it went!

I just looked at one of my Eumig 800's and I agree with Edwin that there does not seem to be an easy way to retrofit the drive discs, mainly because it looks like they are a press fit to the drive shaft. And even if they could be removed, replacing them with a 3D plastic disc (with a bonded rubber surface) may not be successful because of the load exerted by the drive ball. It could be successful if the plastic disc could be made a lot thicker than the existing metal disc. This is possible on the rear disc, but there is not much room on the front disc to do that.
Best bet for Eumig's with slipping drives right now is one of the 'surface renewal' methods discussed on this forum. My latest effort, using a wipe with automobile belt renewal fluid, seems to be holding up well...........so far [Roll Eyes]

After cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, I treat the rubber disks with brake fluid and allow it to soak in overnight. Works a treat.
