I have a Wolverine Fiigital scanner. It seems like a great idea, but it is a toy. Has anyone tried to hack the mp4 compression they use to make it less xelated?

I suppose anything is possible. There is alternative firmware for Canon EOS cameras for example.

But I suspect with these things the real limitations might be in the hardware and not just the compression scheme they chose to use. There's a limited price range for which these really make sense and I think that limits the quality you can expect. If they're too expensive you might as well use a service to do the converting. So they shoot for a price point below that and you get what you get.
