Just sending fellow collectors some info.

I contacted the nice fellow selling El CId ...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EL-CID-SUPER-8-FILM-SCOPE-DERANN-PRINT-/182395221508?hash=item2a779a3604:g:xsUAAOSwa~BYWaGn

... and was informed that this is an 80 minute "digest' from derann of the film, 40 minutes on two reels.

I didn't know that Derann released cutdowns from El Cid, but apparantly they did. the seller is an honest gentleman, but sometimes as american collectors, when we see different ways of stating reel size and such (this fellow is in Argentina), it can be confusing ...

So, this isn;t the full feature of El Cid, and i think a few other features that he is selling might well be shortened or digested versions of the features. Once again, this is no deception on his part, but just kniow the reel size and all.

I only write this e-mail as i have made that same mistake in the past, buying or bidding on something i thought was a full feature and it ends up being a digest version of the feature, but unfortunately being confused by different ways of describing reel size.

I bought odd reels of El Cid from Derann and made a nice hour long mini feature over time. Mine was masked print but not scope.

I once had a 3 x 400' version German print of EL CID.
It was not good quality so I exchanged it for something else.

Here are his own words from his reply ... I like the guy, personally ...

Hi
2 x 240 meters in US measurement is 2 x 830 ft , aproximatelly 40 minutes per reel.
Is a reduced print from Derann in excellent color , equivalent to the German version released by UFA in 4 x 400´ ft.

Regards

I wonder if the fellow just bought specific reels he wanted from Derann, (which a person could do, either to replace a damaged reel or otherwise), or was it packaged in this 80 minute way as a digest of the film?

I'm certain there was no official cut down from Derann, but his words "reduced print" could still be broadly accurate!

I have a couple of test prints of odd reels from the Lone Wolf days that I bought off Trevor at a BFCC many years ago. I wonder if the seller has some and has done what Osi suggested.
