Hey guys! I was just wondering your thoughts on what the best super 8 for winter is. Me and some friends are doing a Europe snowboard trip for two months in January, snowboarding in the streets making a movie for our brand. Last season we had a cheap thrift store super 8. Not sure how reliable it was, and now we are just looking to have something that is better quality on more reliable that will produce better footage for our video!

I have to look into how much 16mm costs to produce because that would be cool to get into as well.

Liam, unfortunately most of us here are into projecting Super 8, but not necessarily shooting new stock.

So I'm understanding you to say you want a higher quality camera? What stock are you shooting on? How much are you willing to spend?

There's no ideal camera for shooting what you're doing: you just have to go for it and try not to destroy the camera.

Actually, that's an incorrect statement. A GoPro is, quite actually, the ideal camera.

Hi Liam,

With Super-8 for such a purpose, you'd want a compact camera with a deep wide-angle lens attachment, not an easy combo in S-8. Braun Nizo made a fine wide-angle lens which fit their 4000-and 6000-series cameras; the lens was by Schneider, so excellent glass. Can be gotten, but not cheap, and you'd have to pair it with one of their good cameras.

As mentioned, a GoPro, or an Iphone 6 Plus or above with the "Filmic Pro" software, a "Beastgrip" handle and a wide-angle lens attached, should do the job. Also a gimbal such as the "Zuiyun Smooth 3" might help out.

Hey Liam, check out the canon line. The 1014xls is top of the line for super 8 cameras. It can be a bit pricey though.

The canon 514xls is a great compromise. It can be found easily on eBay and is a great camera.
