Hello everyone. I'm new to your forum. It looks like a great community, but unfortunately I may not be able to contribute much since I am not an 8mm owner. I do, however, repair computers and digital projectors such as Epson and Viewsonic if anyone needs any help with them. If so, please email me through the site.

I am here because one of our customers is trying to convert a bunch of 8mm film to digital. To start, he purchased this Revere 85, which on the outside looks to be in excellent condition. Unfortunately, it has no power.

I have removed the plate mounting the two power switches and receptacle, and there is a broken wire inside. Usually, when this happens, I can tell where it broke by looking for the left over strands, but in this case I just can't see any strands.

I have cleaned up the wires on the receptacle and given them fresh solder. I have checked inside a sleeve that is used to cover three wires that have been joined together, but I did not find the broken strands there either. I am going to freshen up those wires with new solder and a few layers of heatshrink tubing.

Now I am a little perplexed because I can't find where this wire goes (and to top it off, another client brought in a digital projector with a power problem, and when I tested it, it stunk up my shop with this horrid smell...I think something crawled inside it and died).

So, I was hoping someone here who might own this same projector wouldn't mind taking the plate off where the two power switches mount just to have a look inside. (please unplug the power first). Inside, on the right side, there is a wire with a blue cloth covering on it. It's the only blue cloth wire.

If someone could tell me where that wire goes (it will either be on one side of the power receptacle or it will go into a brown sleeve with three other wires), or if possible take a picture of the wires so I can see where it goes, I would super appreciate it (not super8 appreciate it).

I have a picture I am going to try and upload that should clearly show the broken wire on the right side. Unfortunately I don't know if I can reduce it to 200K with a width of 550 pixels, or if it would be useful thus reduced. No, sorry, I managed to reduce it from 2MB to 800K, but it's too grainy to reduce further so I cannot upload it.

However, there are only two wires on the right side of the chamber, at the bottom. One of the wires has blue cloth insulation, the second is black. The blue one is the wire I need information about.

If anyone needs a picture, please email me through the site here and I will send a picture directly to your email.

Thanks very much for any assistance. If I get any further clients with older projectors, I will sure tell them about this site.

Just FYI for anyone interested.

Since I did not receive a reply, we went with our best educated guess. That blue wire went direct to one side of the 110V line.

It turned out the master power switch is also bad, so we are replacing it, but the lamp switch works fine.

I jumpered the wire and the switch for testing and everything worked.
