From what I have seen, it's my assessment that if you want a classic feature, say "El Cid", if you're going to buy it on super 8 (and especially, if you asre going to buy a new print), by all means, buy to "keep" permanently.

Why do I say this ...

I'll see lot's of people wanting to sell they're classic features for top dollar and rarely are they being snatched up as collectors (who have every right to price them the way they do), will be wanting the price of other "in demand" features ...

The problem is, unless they are the BIG classic features, (let's say, "Robin Hood"), you just are not going top get top dollar for them as the the demand just isn't there for them.

Even Derann's, unless they are the big ones, TOP Disney titles, and of course, the great sci-fi features, if they are not the BIG classics, just won't being in the bucks.

You're thoughts, folks ... [Smile]

A recent example of why buying cine films as an investment rather than to project and enjoy may not be such a wise idea:

Aliens 2016 £1000:

Aliens 2018 £340:

I agree Kevin.
I said on the other forum that i think the price of films may have seen a peek. Some will still fetch scilly money for a while but i have definatly seen people listing top titles for around ££500 and they dont get anyone biting. Silence of the lambs is a title i have seen listed by the same seller at least six times now.
While it's nice to know our films still have some value and havnt ended up like DVD"s, i for one buy my films to watch and keep. The days of making a living out of films are long gone.
Im not sure there are many serious collectors on an average wage who would be that desperate for a title that they would pay five or ten times what they are worth, especialy with other ways of projecting a movie with equally good results for a fraction of the cost.In many cases the results of digital projection can often be much better. Just not so much fun as the reel thing [Wink]

The only way of buying a film as an investment is as a collector recently said "I'm glad I bought when I did", paying £200 plus 10 or 15 years ago was in my opinion crazy then but you could easily pick up Terminator 2 or Star Wars etc, I've never bought to sell either,Mark

Agree with you 100%.
Like most people, i have a limit to what i would pay but i have never bought with the intention of investing. I also view on a very regular basis and love my films. We have an entry level digital projector but this one rarly comes out.

It seems IT WAS THE RIGHT TOPIC...

I am also a collector, not an investor...
There is something magical about Super-8: as a kid I often wished that some of the features I watched at the movies or on TV were available on Super-8 and this didn’t change until today.
Last year (thanks to Ian) I got BRINGING UP BABY on Super-8; I never knew it existed!
So much more fun than a DVD.
I would always prefer celluloid.

That's the magical word Oliver, fun!! Yes other ways of watching films is easier, better quality etc etc but as long as you enjoy it and get the fun factor then that's what it's all about,Mark
