Hi all:

Does anyone have a belt wiring diagram for a Canon PS-1000 projector? [Confused]

Jon, I have one of these in good working order and could eventually post some pictures if that would help. But it has a few idiosyncrasies, and I've wondered for awhile if anyone has a service manual. Surprisingly complex little beast, really.

Thank you very much your answer, yes some pictures will be of tremendous help. It’s complex, there are a couple of other belts in there I have no idea how to reach them. Right now I am interested on the main belt which is around 31” long. I am also searching for a service manual, there’s got to be one out there somewhere, I’ll let you know if I come across it one of these days.

OK, be patient with me. But it's still likely to be a nightmare even with the best pictures I can come up with. I'll see what I can do.

Too bad the user manual is written for 3rd-graders and has no schematics...

There’s absolutely no rush on my part. This projector is not going anywhere and I am not waiting for it to watch movies, whenever you get around to it will be fine. You are right about the manual; most manuals appear to have been written by the same person.

OK, Jon & anyone else interested, I have images. Whoever designed this projector 1) knew how to pack it in and 2) loved complexity. I can't begin to imagine one belt encircling both the front and rear shaft drives AND a center 3-way guide! Good luck getting it on, however that is done.

And if you think there's enough parts in view here, the entire bottom comes off and is a large circuit board for the audio (electrolytic capacitors must be replaced to eliminate aggressive hum).

Here are photos, but a lot of detail is lost in resizing to 20% to fit the forum requirements. If these aren't clear enough, PM me and I can email full-sized files.

I know there's a lot of redundancy here, but showing those twists and convoluted paths effectively is difficult, to say the least. Let alone trying to string one of these up!

Hi Jon and Bill-

I also have the CANO-SOUND projector (PS-1000). I bought it used from a thrift store. At the time of purchase, it had a broken belt. When I opened it up and saw the design, I KNEW I wouldn't be fixing it myself.

I sent it to ESO-S, which is a small company in the U.S. that sells equipment and repairs projectors. They kept the projector for OVER a year. I had almost forgotten that I had sent it out. When I called ESO-S, a nice man explained to me that it is a VERY complex machine, so it was taking longer than expected.

A few months later, it came back to me in excellent working condition. I believe the repair bill was under $100 dollars.

Its a great little projector. I use it as a back-up, and for a quick review of a new print (as long as the film doesnt exceed the projector's 400 foot capacity).

Its been a while since I used them (about four years), but I'll check some back issues of "The Reel Image" magazine for the address and phone number.

Also, Steve Osborne (publisher of Reel Image) may be able to provide the information quicker, if the info is needed right away.

Sorry for not posting this early but I was out-of-town and just came back.

I called today, spoke to his wife and she told me he's still doing repairs but only on certain projectors. I left my number for him and he should call me back, I'll post back as soon as he does.

Hi James,

The fellow called me back and yes he's still in business but he was always the middle man. He sends the work to someone else so he needs to know which kind of projector so he can check with his repairperson before he makes a commitment.
He’ll let me know about a couple of mine in a few days.

Its funny that you mention that. I rememer that he had to check with a third party when I had asked him when my projector would be ready. If he's still using the same technician, then I know he will be capable of fixing it. The question is, will he want to tackle the complex little beast again? I hope so [Wink]

Sad news, I spoke to Harrison Hilfinger and his contact no longer repair projectors. He told me it was too difficult to find parts, he's out of the projectors business.

And the search continues...

Bought one of these,boxed,looking minty.I'll replace the convoluted belt(I thought).Ran a bit of film through(spilling onto the floor).Bright steady picture..no sound.Exiting film covered with black goo!Guess the rollers have died. Put this one down to experience!Restored this wee machine would be very useful.I've not had a projector with a fast forward facility.

Rollers? Goo? Oh no. I still have some things to learn about this guy.

No sound could be goo too, naturally, but I most definitely had to replace some capacitors in mine to get sound way back in 2001. I think you have to take the bottom off. There's a pretty epic circuit board there.
