after out bid after outbid on 8mm films on ebay it makes me wonder who pays the crazy prices that some films sell for way above what they should be after bidding on films at prices slightly above there worth i still get out bid ,i know thats the way ebay works ,but the trouble with our hobby is that youve got to get stuff from where you can ,i guess other members on her have the same problem or maybe its forum members buying them .

Hi Nigel
You aren't alone on this. It amazes me what some collectors will pay for a film. But then, if I could afford it, I would do the very same thing. Everything has a price and that price is whatever one is willing to pay for it. The fun is in the chace.

Cheers!

Patd

The thing is Nigel, you say the words "more than it is worth", but who decides that these days, as the films you are chasing are no longer available?

Recently I have paid way over what a print originally sold for when new from Derann. Trouble is if 2 or more enthusiasts want that print for their collection then the only way they are going to get it nowadays is to pay more than someone else will.

I have my limitations same as the majority of us on here, but I feel that the closure of Derann has made the well looked after items very collectible indeed, and in the near future, i can only see prices paid getting higher if anything.

Absolutely true Andrew. Supply and demand will dictate prices.

The other thing I have noticed more and more recently is that some dreamers (usually with low or zero feedback scores), bid as Nigel says in his second point, way more than anyone else would ever bid, presumably just for thrill of actually winning the bid.
But then surprise surprise... they don't pay up as they either pressed the wrong button on their phone, lost their job that very same day or got diagnosed with a terminal illness or suchlikes.
Very annoying and frustrating I would imagine for any genuine decent seller!

Collectors are specials and they will pay almost anything for an item they want, especially when money is no object.

For example, just last month (June, 2014),the above stamp known as BLACK ON MAGENTA was sold for US$9,500.000.00!!!

The original cost? $0.01. [Cool] [Cool]
