I guess that maybe now, what with the onset of summer, is the time to start thinking about those long winter evenings, and preparing ourselves for some enjoyable film watching, - rather than leaving it till the last minute.

Yes, I know - "If it wasn't for the 'last minute', nothing would ever get done"!

Therefore, having assessed my current situation, I am looking for the following empty reels, or spools, if you prefer.

1 x 600ft Super 8 automatic take-up spool.
1 x 1200ft super 8 automatic take-up spool (to suit Elmo ST1200-HD).
6 x 1200ft Super 8 ordinary feed spools with cans.
6 x 800ft Super 8 ordinary feed spools with cans.

Metal or plastic is fine! (Though I do like the plastic Taylor Reel ones, they're easy to attach labels to the blank side).

If anyone can help with this shopping list, I'd be eternally grateful, and in addition to the purchase price, I might even consider treating the lucky vendor to some light refreshment at the 50th!!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Many thanks,

Dave.

David, if you still have my mobile number, give me a call please. I have a couple of 800ft reels in cases. Yours for a cup of coffee at the 50th BFCC. [Wink]

Hi Craig,

Offer gratefully accepted. Yes, I do still have your number; will call sometime later today. However, I feel that 2 cups of coffee would be more appropriate - one for each reel!! [Big Grin]

Many thanks,

Dave.

I'd happily let you have my 600ft. and 800ft. reels--er, spools... only I live in the USA and shipping may be prohibitive. [Frown]
I can check into it anyway if you want me to...

Yes please, Jan; please find out. So long as shipping isn't ridiculously expensive, I'd be delighted. Thank you so much.

You can e-mail your reply if you prefer, or else post it on the Forum for the benefit of others. My e-mail address would be:

david@pannellandpartners.co.uk

Best regards,

Dave.

Well, I've done some estimates using the calculator at www.usps.com and I'm coming up with about $30 for airmail parcel post (4-10 days) or $5 to $10 less than that for surface mail (4-6 weeks). This would be for one 600ft. take-up reel plus case and four 800ft. reels by themselves (I don't have cans or cases for these). I would want about $25 for the lot so the whole thing would add up to $55. Again, that's a rough estimate and could be less... or more...

Your call! [Wink]

Hi Jan I don't know if you heard of M-Bag mail.the Post Office does not advertize it.But you can shipped a package overseas for 1/3 less than it would cost by surface mail and it still goes by air.You would have to go to the Post Office and request it.The only requirments are the package has to weigh between 11 and 66 pounds.I hope this helps.

Huh... M-bag, you say? Never heard of such a thing. I'll be sure to ask about it next time I actually go to the post office (I actually just started printing and paying for labels in the comfort of my own home).
Actually it's already out of the question as I doubt I'll get those reels to weigh 11 pounds, unless I tie them to a cement brick - and I doubt David would have much use for it [Big Grin]

P.S.: I actually need to stop using the word "actually" so much. [Wink]

Hi Jan,

That's actually about £30 actually, which actually works out at £6 per reel. I think that's nearly twice what I can get them for over here. As you say, the shipping makes it a bit uneconomical actually. [Eek!]

Thank you very much for your efforts though - greatly appreciated, but think I'll pass this time actually.

BTW, I think ACTUALLY is quite a good word, actually. [Big Grin]

Best regards,

Dave.

Sorry I couldn't give you a better deal... but good luck tracking down those remaining reels in the UK, I know you can do it [Smile]

Hello Dave
I've nearly finished re-organising my film collection onto larger spools and have a number of spares left over, so can offer you all the sizes / types of spools and cans you are after - I will send you an email with full details in a few moments, hope this is OK with you.
Kevin.
