Edwin Van Eck Video Services now has the brand new Beaulieu Spool Hubs in stock at his store in the Netherlands.

Item number PP-0012
Price 29.75 Euros each(Price includes both Bearings per hub)

These hubs are an exact 3D printed replica of the new original ones sold by Wittners for well over 100 Euro's each!

Great product now sold at a much more realistic price, I shall be placing my order today for two spares for my own machine.

Interestingly, not all of the early mono/ duo play machines had bearings in their original hubs. This caused extra strain when rewinding large capacity spools on those machines and therefore could, in some circumstances, cause premature wear to the main motor.

If you have such a machine still with the original style hubs fitted, it is well worth the investment just to protect your machines motor from premature wear and possible failure, especially if you are a user of the 2400ft reels on these machines.

Indeed Maurice, and now makes my project totally redundant at these prices, though I do have one set of collars made for my own machine. [Razz]

If I ever need to fit my newly ordered spare set from Edwin, I would remove the sintered bronze bearing and fit the two original ball bearings as these would run much more freely and shouldn't require lubricating beyond the first time they are fitted.

I have quite a few original spare ball bearings now anyhow, one from my own worn front spindle hub upon purchasing the projector and the other two very kindly donated to me from Rob Young's worn spindle hub.

New 3d printed hubs arrived yesterday from Van Eck. They are very very good replicas it has to said. They do only have a sintered brass bush bearing similar to the older model originals and somehow have a completely different texture to the plastic due to the 3d manufacturing process, but I am certain they will be every bit as serviceable as the originals and hopefully stronger still on the plastic spring grips in between the splines.

Anyhow, a really decent set of spares and now available for around £48 for a pair!
That is a drastic saving compared to the originals with Wittners.

Well worth a try I would say at this price.

I doubt I will ever need to fit mine, but at least they are there now should I ever need them.
I just wish I could source every other spare part out there for these machines at similarly cut down prices. [Smile]

Ps, don't forget the Bauer Cam and Claw spares will also soon be made available by Edwin, great news I feel
for all those who have newly acquired one of these fabulous machines.

Should anyone ever need these fitted here in the UK, I am more than capable when the time comes should members prefer not to do their own.
If we all combine our knowledge, skills and services, these machines should outlast even our LPP prints! [Wink]

Do the large Beaulieu spools just slip on, or are they still a little tight as per the new Wittner spindles?

I have just tried them on a 1200ft Elmo Jewel reel for you Maurice.(didn't even get around to trying them yesterday before having to go on my night shift).

They fit with a tight reassuring clunk as they slide over the plastic spring clips. I then held the backside of the reel holders and turned the reel so it was facing the floor. The reel stayed on.
Finally I tried moving my hand up and down so as to shake the reel off the hub whilst it was still upside down and facing the floor. It wouldn't come off with any amount of ordinary force through the shaking motion.

I repeated the test on BOTH the hubs that I purchased from Edwin. The results were identical on both.

Therefore I conclude, to me, they actually feel even tighter than the smooth plastic official brand new Beaulieu ones that we have both purchased in the last twelve months.

As said, the plastic texture of these is not so smooth, but in a way, this seems only to add to the resilience of the grip on these.

Anyhow bedtime for me now, let me know your thoughts on these then please Maurice. [Smile]

When I tried fitting 2200' spools to the new spindles which were supplied by Wittner I first thought they would not go on. It was only when I really aligned them before they would slide on. As such, they were relatively tight.

Andrew's above comment does worry me slightly, particularly about the new Van Eck spindles being tighter.

It ought not to Maurice, as I would only ever term them as a nice precise snug fit.

They are, after all, only plastic, and as you know all too well Maurice, people's only complaint of these in the past is that the plastic retaining spring clips in between the plastic splines ,became worn or in extreme cases of wear due to ill fitting reels, snapped off.

If these stay stronger for longer by virtue that the polymers used this time around have greater strength and elasticity, from where I am standing, this can only be a good thing.

Some large reel hubs such as Elmo only use one spline. As such the large reels fly onto their hubs very quickly and very easily as there is only one spline to align.

With these there are 3 splines as is the norm for most projectors, so it just takes a little more accuracy lining up the very large reels with the 3 splines on the hubs.once you do, they slide over the spring clips with a reassuring "clunk" as you would want them to. Then of course, all you ask, is that the large reels stay put throughout projecting and especially rewinding.

With these, I feel they will do just that, as well if not better than even the official Beaulieu ones on offer at Wittners do...
over many hundreds of hours of use hopefully.
