Hello, I have an Auricon camera but I dont know what type of a galvometer it has? Is there any way of telling what type of a galvometer it has just by looking at the camera? Or is there a common type of galvometers that most auricon cameras have? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

There were three different galvos that Auricon made. The first (and most common) was the unilateral. A non modulated track would just be half white and half black. Any modulation would only produce a single wavy line.

The next was a shuttered unilateral track. This closed down the track to a single white line when unmodulated and then would open on one side while the other side would be wavy.

The thrid was a variable density galvo.

The second two types will be marked on the camera serial number spec plate under galvo type as VD for variable density or S for shuttered noise reduction. The "S" type will also have a little box alongside the lens where the shutter is located.

Each of these galvo requires the proper amp with the right circuity to run it and as far as I know, they all ran on batteries although Auricon did make a battery eliminator.

The exception was the studio mixer/amp that they made for the sound recorder (RA-1200?) which could also be used with the Super-1200. Again you had to order the right model for the galvo you were using.

Hi Mr. Whittle, thank you very much for all of your help. I found no serial number plate on my camera so I am still lost with what type of a galvo I have. I dont think its an S type becuase I found no box by the shutter. Would it be possible to send you a few pictures of the galvometer so you can take a look and see what type of a galvo it might be? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The only camera I have is an Aurico Pro 200 with the S galvo. There is no external difference between the standard unilateral area track and the density track.

Do you have the optical sound amp recording amp? That will have a code on it somewhere. If your camera has no plate, is it possible that the galvo was disabled for a magnetic conversion? Besides the Auricon Filmagnetic there were other people that made mag conversion. Those amps will not work for optical. Also the camera will need a large multipin cannon connector that goes between the camera and the amp. Post a picture of your camera and we'll see what we can determine.
