I have found 16mm a more rewarding gauge over the years simply because there are many more titles available from the era in which I'm most interested.
However, it is much more expensive.

Although my movie and projector´s collection is 90% Super8, I also have some features and shorts on 16mm. My 16mm. projector is an ELF NT-1. It is an exccelent machine and I bought it from Paul Foster in the UK some 7/8 years ago. It is true that you can get in 16mm a lot of titles which are not available in Super8. But before you make a decision bear in mind the following:
- When buying a 16mm feature, the cost of posting is proportiately very high compared to Super8, due to the weight.
-You need a larger room to make good use of the brighter and sharper picture the guage allows.
-Also the fact that the projector is more noisier.

Hi Luis, I started collecting super 8. But I have found that there are far more titles available for 16mm, I have a small collection of 16mm features, about 14 titles, but all are them are in great condition, quality is far superior and prices have even been better than super 8. Quality prints for super 8 LPP low fade are difficult to find an usually very expensive, Derann Prints are far more expensive than most 16mm, titles are usually very commercial stuff. You can also find IB tech prints for 16mm, haven't seen the first one for super8. I bought an ELMO 16-AL projector, great machine for 50 USD!!! So now I find my self more into 16mm, today I will only buy a super 8 print if I find it is not available for 16mm. The only issue here is size and weight, 16mm takes a lot of space and weight far more than S-8.

Hi Luis, In addition to the comments made by Michael, I would just like to add that here in the u.k. there were very few 16mm prints available for collectors to purchase until VHS tapes and DVDs arrived. Most of the film distributing companies had a 16mm film hire library but hire charges were quite high. The films available today come from some of these and other libraries, TV companies, county council and sponsored film libraries etc. Ken Finch. [Cool]
