Hi all,

just lucked out with a f 1.0 lens and have a few questions. I already know that it is going to be brighter than my current f 1.2 but was wondering what else I'll be improving on. I will have to wait another week to get it n couldn't wait is all [Smile]

Picture size will be increased from the same throw distance and the image should appear much sharper if the lens is a high quality one. Probably harder to keep in focus though than your current one especially if different film stocks are mixed on the same reel as often is the case on trailer reels for example.

... I assumed ( the first wrong thing to do) that picture size would be the same, only brighter and sharper, had no idea about focusing issues [Frown]

... The lens is Kowa so I'm thinkin it's going to be awesome [Smile]

From the sole indication f 1.0, I can only tell the picture will be brighter, than a f 1.2 lens, Andrew. What let you think the picture will be increased in size ? To know that, I need the other number information like 50 mm, 35 mm ... Do you know something that was not on Elyas' original message ?

The most common prime lens on 16mm projector is the 50mm. If this is the case for your machine, Elyas, your new lens - depending on its quality - will give you a brighter, slightly sharper but slightly smaller projected image.

Hey I like it Elyas, Drew & Dom...has a kind of ring to it doesn't it! Ha ha ha.

Erm now then, ah yes 55mm is the focal length so it will probably give you a kind of standard sized image for 16mm I am guessing judging from this fairly standard figure on a 16mm PJ lens.

Someone on here will tell you exactly what image size to expect Elyas if you state the projector to screen distance using this lens.

I thought I was missing something, Andrew :-) Elyas, to compare with the lens you are using now, we should know what's the number (other than 1.2) that's on it. If the number is below 55 mm (most 16 mm projectors come with a standard lens of 50 mm), the picture you will have with your new lens will be smaller on the screen at the same disatnce and you may have to move your projector back. The difference in the size of the picture between 55 and 55 mm should not be high but it will be if you are currently using a 35 mm for instance. Of course, the oppostite is that if you're now using a 70 mm lens for example, a 55 mm lens will give you a bigger picture. But, soon, Elyas, YOU will tell us what your lens perfomances looks like. I have never had a 1.0 16mm lens.

Please tell us what all the markings are on this f1.0 lens. I, as Dominque, have never had an f1.0 lens for a 16mm projector, the fastest lens I have on my 16mm projectors is f1.2.

Wow!!!

thank you all so much, sweet feedback on this topic. I currently have the standard EIKI 50mm f 1.2 and since the new lens I'm expecting is the Kowa 55 mm f 1.0, I have a way better understanding of what to expect of it [Smile]

... I will, however, be sure to get back with more details when I actually get the lens for those of us who've never had a f 1.0 before [Wink]

Are you sure this lens is for a 16mm projector?
I used Google search engine using "Kowa lens f1.0, 55mm" and this has resulted in a lens described as "....designed for video capture of displays in X-Ray machines."
They are no longer used and are being discarded to sell at low prices.

Hi Maurice,

I am making my own bespoke lens mount and trying it out anyways, but glad to hear. I did notice that the threads on the barrel aren't as one's on the stock lens, hence, my aforementioned fix. I'll attach a pic just to give you an idea, I'm almost certain ( nervous laughter lol) it'll work [Big Grin]
