My B&H 3580 takes a BRK exciter lamp, but these are no longer being manufactured. Can I use a BAK as an alternative?

Brad
The answer is no.
Your projector was made by Eiki and only badged as a Bell & Howell, therefore, the BAK lamps are only suitable for a proper Bell & Howell.
They are the same electrical spec and base, but the lamps differ with their filament positions.
This is because the Bell & Howell projectors fit the lamp vertically, whereas the Eiki fit them horizontally.
You can still get them from US Amazon. I suggest you stcck up!

Are the BAK lamps also discontinued?

I was not aware that either had been discontinued.
I have many different projectors so I always have a good stock of spare lamps.
As such, I have had no need to buy any lately, but, you could be right.

Tons on USA ebay for around 7 or 8 dollars, some with free shipping. I buy most of my projector lamps, bulbs and amp tubes on Ebay and have never received a dud.

Anybody recommend a particular seller for both BRK and BAK? I have an Eiki SL-0 that takes the BAK. Why would these be discontinued? O'h my.. What do we do when there's no more of either? I guess the ELC, DNE (for my Chinon) and the EFN ( for my Eumig S807) will soon be next. Then I imagine our hobby will, indeed, be forced into obsolesence.

Are you asking for the name of a particular seller on Ebay, or some other retailer? You will be able to buy them for years on Ebay, but price may go up. Exciters last for a very, very long time. Buy several of whatever you need.

Your Eiki SL-0 takes a BRK, not a BAK.
