Hello everyone-

I'm having an audio issue with my Elmo 16 CL. It's sort of a tinny dragging noise that's happening even when film is not running through the projector. I cleaned the solar battery and sound lens as the manual suggests, but no luck. The rollers are all in good shape as well as we had it serviced last year. Any ideas? I can post an audio file if someone could tell me how to post it here!

Thanks!
Lisa

Try changing the exciter lamp. They can sometimes give audio problems.

Lisa...if changing the exciter lamp doesn't solve the issue. You can record the audio file then upload it to YouTube or another cloud storage area that you can link to with a URL. Then insert the link into your post.

Thanks Janice, great idea. I just ordered some new exciter bulbs, but just in case that doesn't work and someone has come across this before, here's the sound...

Yes that sounds like the exciter lamp has gone microphonic and is picking up the noise of the projector when it is running. You can confirm this by switching on the amp with the volume turned up (without the motor running) and then gently tap the glass of the exciter lamp with a small screwdriver . If you get a 'ringing' sound then the lamp is defective and requires replacement.
