Hey all you guys who deal with ebay.

I encourage you to start a letter writing campaign to state the problem with the current feedback system, stating that you have lost your excellent feedback scores due to this current joke for a feedback rule.

Waste of time!!

I do know that they are soon going to cease counting neutral feedbacks as if they were negatives, which, I suppose is a step in the right direction.

They state that they are going to review this new decision as of August, and I hope that they'll factor in all these sellers that had a spotless ebay until this new policy as there are a lot of unscrupulous buyers that, knowing that they need not fear the poor seller being able to recompense them in the same manner, go right off and leave crappy feedback.

Osi, I read your descriptions on those two auction and those feedbacks were totally unwarranted. This sort of thing was inevitable when Ebay enacted this new policy. I hope Ebay removes these attacks on your good reputation.

It's no longer possible to leave negative feedback for buyers in the new scheme of things at eBay. That's the rub.

I'm both a buyer and seller at eBay and, while the new scheme leaves a lot to be desired, the old had problems as well. Before the new scheme was implemented, I was occasionally sent goods whose condition was grossly misrepresented by the seller. I wasn't made whole in those instances because the sellers threatened retaliatory feedback and, as a seller myself, I wanted to retain my excellent rating. In the new scheme, dishonest sellers don't have that leverage, but honest sellers are now vulnerable to unwarranted negative feedback.

From my perspective, the advantages of eBay outweigh the risks, and, looking on the bright side, the feedback rating is now a twelve month sliding window, so sellers whose ratings have been adversely affected by unwarranted negative feedback may see their ratings rise again.

Thanks Chip for your comments.

As stated by others, unfortunately, with the current state of things, I have no retaliatory options, so I just have to [put up with it, however irritatting it is.

But on the plus side, it took a whole four and a half years before I ran into my first severely imbalanced ebayer.

The feedback system as it currently stands is wrong. The only way to make a fair system for buyers and sellers is to present the option of "negative" or "positive" feedback for both the buyer and the seller and you would have to prove the negative is warranted. Of course, this would mean ebay would have to hire extra staff to oversee any disagreements through free arbitration. That would mean extra cost for Ebay, but the extra cost may pay for itself by increasing Ebay's revenue because people would buy more knowing there is an honest feedback system. Plus more sellers would stay at Ebay and not migrate to other venues.

Take Osi's situtation, the person who purchased the projector would have to show the ad offered an extra reel. The complaint about 50% increase in shipping would have to be proven. Osi never said the bulb was working.

The other person who left negative feedback said "item was discribed in terms I did not understand". Hello [Confused] why did you buy something you did not understand. This sort of lunacy should not qualify for negative feedback.

I must agree with you there Dan, poor you Osi, that one is amazing.
Your fault they are`nt up on the cine terms etc.??? You can surely get that removed. Its just bizzare!!!!
I recentlyish had a negative from an aweful ebay seller, try as I might staying calm and doing all I could etc.
He was in such a angry rush to neg me.
Strangely my reply neg( after his) on his feedback has mysteriously gone though now I never heard a dickie bird from ebay, can they pull my own words etc without getting back to me.
I`ve emailed them and asked them to remove mine now and again nothing.
I was almst entrapped in to this sale as I asked for options etc before he accepted the offer I sent so was waiting to hear back, 2 messages made that clear, but he accepted the offer first ignored what I had asked etc and then laid down how it should be etc.
I did my best with allsorts of options in the subsequent situation of him accepting the offer without getting back first, only for him to be desperate to neg me with a mixed up wrong and unfair feedback. It was dreadful and unpleasant what came my way along with the mantra of ebay policey!!!!
I wonder what their policy is on outright unpleasantness etc.
Anyway my flammin neg still stands.!!!!!

The only other one from a few years ago I was ripped of to the tune of £100, ebay did absolutely nothing for me to get any back and my neg stayed too. I kept getting email replies that bore no relation to the actual transaction so I gave up.
Funny then you get a rate my performance in replying ebay staff questionaire.

Surely the wronged buyer should at least be given the fee ebay got ???

I think the collossal amount of money they make every single day their slip shod approcah to sorting matters out is shockingly bad myself.
As for many of these new silly rules and search changes etc, its corner piddling, I E the new boss stamping out his ground etc.
Moan and groan over.
Best Mark.

I have to agree with Glenn - though we moan and bitch about Ebay especially when things don't go our way, its advantages outweigh the risks.

I do agree with you Micheal, the benefits do outweigh the minus's. After all, I just won a Super 8 print of "The Phantom of the Opera for 25.00 dollars. How much did that bad boy cost originally, (especially a Blackhawk print)?

No, the point for me Micheal is that I am, above all things, a man of integrity. I have lived my life by a strict code of ethics that are sound and principles that have carried me thru
42 happy years ...

... so when some son of a bitch is allowed to willie nillie leave not only negative but outright lies passing as feedback and dishonor my integrity before all, that pisses me off. Sure, my friends know my character, but still, it damages, just the same, and the dishonorable should not be allowed to triumph.

Yeah, I know, that's the way of the world, and I sound like some Knight of old,(must be the British in me) but that's the way I live dammit!

Osi, you are a man after my own heart. I do not and never have, knowingly, "crossed" another person. I don't do such things to others and I expect the same from them. The most frustrating thing is, not the fact that you wish to retaliate and start a "tit for tat" war, it is the fact that you want to put "your side" of the argument.
E-bay has taken that facility away from the seller.
As others have said, E-Bay is a "necessary evil" that we all will partake of.
I think your only recompense, in this instance Osi, is that you can "Air your opinions" on this Forum, to fellow collectors and "E-Bayers" and at least "vent" some of your frustrations.
It is very hard to forget "injustice" but for "peace of mind", I think you have to move forward, otherwise there is a chance that your "Code of Honor" will become a little tarnished and twisted. Then, you are in danger of becoming the same as the offending party, God forbid.

Have good weekend and enjoy watching "Phantom" and put these "frustrations" to one side..

Nope, won't have Phantom until sometime late next week. The funny thing is that I have a print of that on the restored DVD, and it does look stunning ...

But that film belongs on the big screen, silent, potentially scratchy and all! The curious thing is that there is the mystery ... is this the restored color sequence Blackhawk edition or not? A short time will tell.

As for my honor and integrity ... no dishonorable person can ever truly rob I or anyone else of that, you give it up yourself.

It reminds me of that wonderful line about "honor" from "Rob Roy" I don't remember it verbatim, but ...

"Honor is the best gift a man can give himself. No one can take it from him ... ect."

and, as I stated before ... I do believe that "karma" will eventually bite the offender in the proverbial arse!
