What an absolute wonderful film. Here is a review someone gave on imdb and I totally agree:

No extended fight scenes. No unnecessary pyrotechnics. Simply a story of ordinary people conducting themselves in extraordinary fashion when faced with the hell of Hitler's Third Reich and World War II.

The literary vehicle of Death as the Narrator is a masterstroke, as is the overall emphasis of words/books/art overcoming evil.

And it's all done with compassion for children at their best and most vulnerable, and adults bypassing the convention of the era to display kindness, caring and understanding.

An understated classic, there aren't enough movies like this being produced.

And that's a damn shame.

Hi Larry

Early this evening I clicked onto this forum and your mention of "The Book Thief" I then checked with our local multi-plex and they had one last session tonight in about half an hour.

Got to the cinema just in time [Smile] and have to say, what a wonderful film. I have just got in the door and told my wife that she really needs to see this film, so we both can go again later this week.

For anybody else that have not been to the movies for a while. I highly recommend this film.

Thanks Larry

Graham.

Well this really unusual for me to do this, but I went a second time, but this time with by better half today. Although all the cast are superb, Canadian Sophie Nelisse as Liesel, is stunning and very talented young lady.

I also notice John Williams did the score [Smile] ...brilliant.

John Williams received the only nomination for Book Thief as far as I could see. I was very disappointed overall in the oscar nominations. I thought Emma Thompson did an excellent job and she was snubbed. I may only watch the beginning and skip the rest this year.

Book Thief is such a wonderful film. Can't wait for the DVD/Blu-ray.

Larry,

I think you meant Emily Watson and NOT Emma Thompson and agreed Emily is also VG.

Looking at the nominations, I was surprised how little recognition "The Book Thief" has recieved.....pity.

young Sophie Nelisse as Liesel gave a absolute stunning performance.
