I recently spotted on UK Amazon a DVD of a film I have for years been trying to obtain, it was advertised as "All Region Import", so I ordered it.
On arrival, I was surprised that there were two languages on the DVD covers, English and an unknown oriental script, even worse it had a code of '6', a check on the Internet revealed this to be the code for China.
With trembling fingers I put in my player (UK region is '2'). Would it play?
I was surprised and pleased that it plays perfectly. Have any members in other DVD regions bought these Chinese issues, and have they played OK?

Yes, Maurice. Sometimes one needs to select English as the language and switch off Chinese subtitles (difficult when the menu is in Chinese!) but they play fine. I've bought them for the same reason.... difficult to find in the UK. I have "Carmen Jones" and "The Student Prince", amongst others, and find the video quality inferior to DVD but better than VHS, so no idea what masters they are using.

In case you have a dvd from another regio than yours, be aware that some dvd players are easy to unlock. I transformed mine in a "all zones" one in less than one minute. I opened the tray (like if you want to put a dvd in to play it) and pressed (with the remote control) on the menu button. There was an "unlock" (dézonage") function to select and a code with numbers to digit. And it was done. I found these instructions (and the code) on Internet. It may worth to check if your dvd player is unlockable and if it is easy to do. If you're lucky...
