I was present at the BFCC several years ago when John Clancy ran several reels of film using the sync-pulse method. He had a THX sound system set up, and the results were very impressive indeed, with 5.1 surround sound blasting through the Ealing Town Hall, and all synchronized perfectly with the picture. But I agree, that while this method is great for a special 'road show' event, it is not very appealing for routine home showing of films.
