This site has been on my favorites list for ages but now it seems it has gone. Anyone else checked this link.

Yes

I saw the same when I checked it yesterday. I use it pretty often, so I'd say it hasn't been down very long.

Super-8 Wiki is based on the same data:

Super-8 Wiki

-but I like how Super-8 database is organized better.

I don't remember who the author is but this has happened many times previously while the site has been updated or during server technical issues.

If you did enough research on here John, someone somewhere did know of the author and I think he may have contacted once before when this kind of thing was happening.

As you say it is almost an essential website for any newcomer to the hobby and extremely useful even to the most seasoned collector so let's just hope, like before,
It comes back soon.

The owner/admin is from Spain as above. The webpage is paid up until 2018, so my guess is the database went down and the ISP has no idea, and the owner hasn't been checking lately. This happens to me from time to time on certain sites i administer and it is very frustrating. The ISP's should have a mechanism to tell them when customer sites are unreachable...but they don't care...they just want the money upfront and that is that.
It is a great site, and I am certain it will be up again soon!
Cheers,
Matt

Same default page here. Martin could be seeing a version cached somewhere before the fault, I suppose.

Did that website (or any site for that matter) have a comprehensive list of what was ever offered on super 8? Does such a thing exist?

It was (hopefully will be again...) a pretty decent list of equipment manufactured for Super-8, and other things like camera film (mostly obsolete now).

As far as we've discussed here, there never has been a comprehensive list of commercial films printed in the 8mm gauges. There were so many small companies printing films that nobody could ever know them all.

I've been following one publisher of Super-8 railroad films semi-rabidly since my teens and every year I still find two or three from them I've never heard of before!

I want to know: Is there a 16mm Database anywhere? I'm doing a little low level inquiry into that realm and I'm finding I have no idea what's out there!

Well, the link is no longer dead.

It comes up as Wittner Cinetec, but it is at least no longer dead.

Maybe the owner of the web site, Super8data.com, no longer pays for the site to be active. Very sad though if this is the case. It was first point of reference for many whenever equipment of interest becomes available for sale.

I miss this site also. It's been such a valuable source of information. The wiki is better than nothing, but I don't like it. However check out Van Eck Video Services page... http://www.van-eck.net/itable.php?lang=en&size=0&cat=film&merk=none&type=none. I don't know how complete it is, but the information looks like it came for the Super 8 database.

Important update about SUPER8DATA
==============================

I phoned Carles yesterday, and he told me that both the domain and THE CONTENT of super8data are now property of Wittner.
The domain is now redirected to Wittner's website -as all of you have noticed-, but the content should be online again very soon.

Carles is also away from the super-8 world now, so please don't try to contact him about these issues. And please, don't publish personal info about him (phone, adress,...)

No of course not.
Let's just hope Wittners do the honourable thing here now, and bring the web pages back to life again for every enthusiast out there both current and future ones!
