If you like movies from the 1980s The Last Starfighter was certainly one of the best. I watched it tonight projected on the Panasonic video projector, and I must say both the picture and sound a "DTS-HD Master audio 5:1" was indeed outstanding.

The real test for this presentation for me, was how my 7 year old grandson would react to a movie that was made 32 years ago. He was over the moon watching this one, which shows that its lost none of its appeal, even to a very young audience. I would certainly highly recommend this blu-ray release. [Cool] [Smile]

Graham when I saw the title I thought of the Robert Vaughn movie Battle beyond the Stars. Looks a much better film see you tube link. I see Spielberg wants to remake it why doesn't he do something original.

I think this one plays so well today because, though they did the best they could at the time, the special effects look like an older model PC game and let's face it, kids are into thier PC games!

"TRON" takes the prize for my favorite early "CGI" style film. The thing that amazes me about "TRON" is that i some ways, thyey were not using actual CGI graphics but very ingenious old school animated special effects! When you watch how they actually made the film, it's quite amazing. In some ways, i compare "TRON" and it's style of animation, to being almost as ground-breaking as "Snow White" was in the 30's. Personal opinion, of course.

I am one of those 80's movie lovers Graham. The Last Star Fighter was a main-stay film with my two boys growing up. My VHS version was literally played till it's end of life cycle. A fun movie and very good memories of happy kids watching it.

One of the things that this film does well was to start of, nice and slow in the trailer park eg the dog asleep that kind of thing. It does not hit you straight away with special effects or fast editing. Plus you have top actors like Robert Preston and an amazing score by Craig Safan that contribute so much to this movie, not forgetting the computor effects which are outstanding even to this day.

I came across our old VHS tape yesterday that we bought long ago in the 1980s...how times have changed in the home theatre since we bought it... [Cool]

Graham, What a great trailer. How did I miss that one. It's my birthday on Tuesday so perhaps if I give my wife a hint......(she's not usually much good when my hints are being dropped).....

This is one of my favorite films. A great balance of sci-fi, adventure, heart and humor.
