Is there anyway that you, as an ebay seller, can "click off" this habit that ebay has of sometimes sending an instant invoice when a buyer does a "buy it now" ?

I ask as, (as some of you obviously know), I was recently in a situation where an issue concerning shipping got "messy" to say the least, but if I had been allowed to send the invoice and not an instant invoice by ebay, I could have caught the extra high shipping charge and dealt with it right then and there.

Can I click that "function" off on ebay, or am I kind of stuck with it as a seller?

I've also noticed that, for some odd reason, I CAN send an invoice on a buy it now IF the buyer hasn't paid for the item as of yet, but it seems like the buyer has the option to pay right away and they don't have to wait for the seller to send an invoice ...

or am I wrong in this assumption?

I thank you for you're advise ahead of time.

Osi - listen up on this and listen good....

The SELLER sets the postage rate WHEN YOU CREATE THE LISTING .

If the buyer does BIN and PAYS BEFORE you send an invoice , EBAY SENDS THE INVOICE WITH THE POSTAGE RATE YOU FILLED IN WHEN YOU CREATED THE LISTING .

If the buyer does BIN AND YOU DO NOT CHOOSE THE BOX WHERE IMMEDIATE PAYMENT IS REQUIRED WHEN YOU CREATE THE LISTING ,the seller can now send an invoice with a new or changed postage rate .

This is crucial - when you create a BIN listing , there is a box to check for " IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED " .
If you check that box , the seller will be sent the postage rate you filled in when creating the listing .
If you DO NOT check that box , the seller has an opportunity to send a new or revised invoice . The seller will get a notice YOUR ITEM HAS SOLD and to send an invoice .

In addition to David's good info, let me attempt to add some: even if you don't require immediate payment (Good!), the buyer can't be prevented from paying up on both if they're just that quick. So, like most things, you take your chances on eBay and hope for the best. And still, if you go to create an invoice, eBay does a great job of automatically combining all items purchased by one person and (as you know) allows the shipping charge to then be adjusted.

Perhaps consider adding a note to your listing to wait for an invoice if there are multiple purchases? Can't hurt, might help?

I like that Bill, adding a note asking for the seller to await an actual invoice from the seller. I don't know if that will work, especially if the buyer has the option to pay right away, but I certainly like it!

... and thanks to the other folks who have contributed! [Smile]
