The city of Winter Park (Orlando)Florida had an outdoor movie last night. It was the clasic "War of the World's" starring Gene Barry. The movie was of course great (George Pal's 50 year old special effects still look great today), and very well received by the outdoor audience (much applause and cheers at the end). People brought lawn chairs, picnic baskets and wine, and the event was a real treat for movie buffs. Unfortunately they did not use film, but back projected DVD video onto about a 15 ft wide screen. The picture was commendably sharp , but flat and dull and lacking color saturation when compared to a projected film print(Is this typical of projected video?). I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, but was glad to get back to the house with my GS1200 and experience some "reel" film projection. I would love to get hold of an S8 print of this great film. I know Marketing released a 3 x 400ft cut down version, but was it ever released in a full length version?

Yes Paul, 'WAR OF THE WORLDS' was released as a full length feature, but I haven't seen any used prints listed for some time now. I have the 3x400 version which is well edited has very good sound and beautiful colour.
