Thought I would pass this info on to other ST users on the forum.
I put some new film through my ST1200HD and noticed that it had some light scuff marks on the emulsion side of the film. Fortunately not deep marks. [Mad] Anyway further investigation found that the guide which goes round to and under the last sprocket had worn flat just where the film enters into the last sprocket.
The profile of the guide should be concave all the way from the top of the guide right down and through the last sprocket.
I got Tony Milman to check his ST1200HD and he found the same as a picture he sent me shows. I have reshaped my guide using wet and dry paper and it now runs without any marks at all.
Elmo's test in their service manuals is a length of new film spliced in a loop and then run round the machine 10 times to check for scratches. Mine now passes that test. [Smile]
The point about this particular area is that scratching caused by this guide will not be noticed until the film is subsequently shown.
I can email the picture Tony sent me with the area marked if anyone wishes to check their machines.

Kevin

Interestingly, I ran a loop test without modifying the guide. On the b/w silen film that I ran I have no obvious marking of the emulsion side but there were some very very light marks on the base side. Nothing that projects as a scratch but certainly some light wear. Not sure where it is coming from and I have no idea if a certain amount of wear like this is inevitable.
